I expect that will be all the alignment we will see until the ACC grant of rights expires.

The playoff will expand to 8 very soon. G5 will not have an auto bid.

Unfortunately, that scenario or something worse seems almost inevitable. Just to quibble, I don't think the remainder PAC schools will stomach Boise academics (& the Boise media market is barely top 100 if you include the whole state) & would opt for SDSU or Fresno St if another school is needed. I see Boise & most of the MWC on the outside just like us.

You’re probably right about Boise and the MWC

So West Virginia is going to the Pac-12?

For the short term they have no choice. I think they eventually end up in an expanded ACC.

The denial and bitterness is hilarious and sad at the same time. You went from assuring that Memphis was going to be apart of the Big 12, to fantasizing about being a part of it to now hoping for its destruction.

Actually I assured that Houston, Cincy, Boise and UCF would get invited and that’s what happened. I hope it works out for y’all to stay in the Big12. I live in Texas and Houston deserves it.

“Geniuses” is a bit of a stretch. That was a no-brainer move for them, especially Rutgers.

It's great for Houston that they got the Big 12 invite. But how is it that they "deserve" it? What did UH do specifically from others that they deserve it?

They bring a lot of televisions in the KC, Omaha and even OK City and Tulsa areas

The best hope for the Big 12 is that in anticipation of Washington, Oregon and Stanford leaving the Arizonas and the like beat them to the punch

If Oregon and company stay put the PAC is so much stronger than the erector set

But the erector set is stronger than the AAC.

And while basketball doesn’t wag the dog here, Kansas is better than any Big Ten program and will instantly be the best in the Big Ten.
And Maryland is pretty good too and brought Baltimore and DC cable TV with them

If they go to 48 teams, Houston will not be included.

If Tier 1 completely breaks away then the SEC and BIG10 champions will play for the NC each year. If the 2 or 3 (depends on if PAC12 survives) Tier 2 league champions are allowed a spot in an expanded national playoff (8 or 12 teams) then the SEC and BIG10 will send 3 to 5 teams each to go along with the 2 or 3 Tier 2 champions.

Memphis needs the PAC 12 to stabilize and survive and raid the MWC and the BIG12 needs to lose Kansas and/or WV so that it needs to backfill with Memphis rather than absorb tbe PAC12 left overs.

Oregon and Washington are looking to leave the PAC, Arizona n Arizona State may be joining the Big 12 along with Colorado.

If that happens then there is no room for Memphis in Tier 2 as B12 will be full.

Best hope is that PAC12 stabilizes and raids MWC. WV to ACC and Kansas to BIG10 so that B12 has to reload and backfill with Memphis.

If B12 raid PAC12 leftovers then it's over and out for Memphis. No room at the inn and welcome to a permanent place in Tier 3 = same as today's FCS.

Not too long ago the Big Twelve had

Texas
Oklahoma
TX A&M
Missouri
Colorado
Nebraska

In a year they will have none of them

They are scrambling to do their best, and they still have a decent value but my lord of no one ever jumped ship they were just fine

As I said in another thread nothing has changed for Memphis. We are in the same place we were in back in 1963

That’s pretty much the way I see things. What hurts is that so many others aren’t.

Do you seriously think the GOR will stop those teams from leaving? No f’ing way. They’ll go if invited and litigate this in court and most likely settle for much less. They won’t be out of the top tier due to the GOR. There’s way too much long term money to get left out.

Look at all 4 schools that got invited. Each put big money into their football programs while we scraped for years to get an IPF. Same story for years, but it took us this long to make an announcement about major renovations. While an OCS was preferable, a major LB reno might have been enough if we did it years ago.

College football is selling its soul for TV dollars, yet what makes college different from pro ball are the rivalries & pageantry, and those are being tossed aside. College football is a regional game with regional appeal… its hard to believe Oklahoma v Kentucky will mean as much to OU fans as OU v Baylor, Texas Tech or Oklahoma State. Will playoff games against conference mates be as compelling as games against teams from other regions? I hate to see the sport narrow its focus to 40-50 teams & think ratings & attendance will continue to decline.

Sports are really being driven by TV and sports gambling now. I agree the casual fan will be less likely to watch. Like many others, I am less interested due to the changing landscape, NIL, and transfer rules.

As I've said before, Tier 1 and 2 college football is now just minor league professional football as it might have existed in the 30s-40s - it's the 'wild west' with all the poaching going on, lol.

Tier 3 (and FCS I suppose) will have to get by on scraps and understand that any good players they happen to get / develop will be bought and move up to Tiers 1/2 each and every year. It won't be a fun place to be.

SEC will not poach the ACC.

I'm not so sure of that. I would think UNC, Duke, UVA and VA Tech could be prime targets.

The SEC/B1G are gobbling up premier schools to eventually breakaway from the NCAA to create their own division; between 40 to 48 schools

The BigXII along with everyone else not included in the breakaway division are going to be the ‘best of the rest’.

All leftover schools are just rearranging the chairs on the Titanic for a better view because your team is not in the club and neither are we. Welcome back 07-coffee3

This is my view also. I think 48 schools.
