They have very nice facilities including a brand new shiny FB stadium and they host the prominent Holiday Bowl. No brainer. Bring them in with TCU, Texas Tech and OK St. Solid 14 team conference. If they lose Colorado and Arizona to the Big 10, they are still at 12 very solid schools in 4 new markets.
Thoughts?
I think that would be perceived as a distinctly small-time move by the PAC, cementing its loss of status.
I think they have to add b12 schools.
I was wrong about the B1G never adding PAC schools, but I was right about one thing - some predicted the B1G might go after schools like Kansas or Colorado. I said that this would be viewed as a pitiful response to what the SEC just did, and would harm B1G prestige. I thought that if the B1G did do something, they would Go Big, with a move that was comparable to what the SEC did with TX and OU. And they did.
The PAC, IMO, cannot afford to look like the nB12, backfilling with schools that are obviously a pale, pitiful shadow of what they lost. No, there is nobody they can get that will be equal value to USC and UCLA, but they have do something more than ad MW schools, IMO.
I think the Pac has to get back into Southern California. I don't think that is even an option. San Diego State was never considered for entry before because UCLA and USC had a strong presence in the San Diego area. Obviously, that is no longer an issue for the Pac. San Diego State has a good football program and a good basketball program.
At this point in time, I don't see a Big 12 program coming to the Pac and I don't see a Pac program going to the Big 12. You cannot go to another conference without some idea as to what the TV revenue is going to be. The Pac is in better shape than the Big 12 if they do not lose any more members. That is a big IF.
