Quick Ranking from the article:
1) Cincy
2) UCF
3) Houston
4) SMU
5) ECU
6) Memphis
7) Tulane
8) Tulsa
9) USF
10) Navy
11) Temple
In comparison, here are the latest ESPN FPI power rankings (7/6/22):
1) Cincy
2) UCF
3) Houston
4) SMU
5) Memphis
6) Tulane
7) ECU
8) USF
9) Tulsa
10) Navy
11) Temple
Either ranking seems fair. I think 5-7 is a tossup between those 3 (Memphis, Tulane, ECU).
Pirates with the biggest drop. Will have a decent idea where we stand by mid-October. 2+ losses by 10/15, and we're not finishing top 5.

Prepare to be disappointed. I think we go 5-7 or 6-6 at best.
The pessimism of older Memphis fans is something I will never get used to.
We have a Freshman All American QB returning, we've had the best recruiting classes in school history the last 2 years in a row. The talent on this team is definitely top tier in the conference. The RB room is stacked. I really like both of our new coordinators. This team is going to surprise some people.
You calling me a pessimist is hilarious. I'm usually accused of being too optimistic. I simply try to be realistic, so one side or the other always seems to be offended.
Our Schedule:
@ Miss State L
@ Navy W (but we have only won once up there, and it's always close)
Ark State W
No Texas W
Temple W
Houston L
@ ECU L
@ Tulane L (we have lost the last 2 there)
UCF L (we have beaten them one time)
Tulsa W
No Alabama W
@ SMU L
That comes out to 6-6, my best case scenario. 5-7 if we lose to Navy.
In conference, that's 3-5. We would likely have to go 7-1 in conference to make a championship game. That means win all but 1 vs. @ Navy, Houston, @ECU, @ Tulane, UCF and @ SMU.
I'm not sure I'm the unrealistic one.
What record do you see us having?
P.S. Believe it or not, this is a make or break year for Silverfield. If he goes 6-6 or 5-7, he will likely be fired.
I hope you are right, and he is successful here for a long time. I just don't see it.
We beat ECU and Tulane. And win at least one of either UCF or Houston at home. I agree with you about Silverfield if we don't win 8 games this year he is done. I think we will though. This is a really good team.
Maybe based on our QB & recruiting rankings but I think we still lack skill position speed that has been our advantage when we've been good in the last several years (needed with this offense). I see a 6-7 win year. Hoping for 8+ but don't see them. If we win less than 8 I hope our AD can summon the courage to find a new coach using the search approach that got us Fuentes & Norvell.

I could build a case for any of the top six listed here reaching the CCG.

(06-29-2022 06:16 AM)MemphisFootballFan Wrote: I don't mean to belabor the point, but below is our record for the last 8 seasons. I think it is clear that last season was a fluke because we had a ton of injuries, an 18 year old true freshman at QB, and literally no field goal kicker. This year we have a level of talent and depth that is as good or better than anything we had during 2014-2020. And our QB is elite. I think we will see a return to the Memphis football standard and win between 8 and 12 games. I think it is irrationally pessimistic to be predicting anything worse than that.
2021 American 6 - 6 0.5
2020 American 8 - 3 0.727
2019 American 12 - 2 0.857
2018 American 8 - 6 0.571
2017 American 10 - 3 0.769
2016 American 8 - 5 0.615
2015 American 9 - 4 0.692
2014 American 10 - 3 0.769
I'm definitely not an "older Memphis fan", but as much as I like Seth I don't consider him elite right now. And 12 wins is definitely not our standard as what you posted shows. Until we prove otherwise 12 wins is an outlier. I don't see us having double-digit wins this season. I do believe 8 wins would be a really good season considering the coaching changes.

I’ll predict that Memphis goes 7-5. 8-4 is possible, but so is 6-6. 7-5 is probable.
Cincy, Houston and UCF are the likely three top teams, and ECU seems to be improving each year under its current coach. So the Memphis finish is likely 4th or 5th. Decent season—- but nothing spectacular.

Congrats Temple. Only AAC team >100 at #126. Navy close at #98.
Seems a liitle pessimistic for the conference
Don’t believe congrats are in order but thanks?
Anyway, we had a HC tor 3 years who drove the program into the ground. It will take years to recover. The new HC, Stan Drayton, looks to be improving things. But we are in bad shape, like 2-12 shape. The goals will be not losing by 5 TDs and getting some 1st downs, and improvement as the season progresses.
I think we'll be better than people realize. Some of the transfers should help bridge the talent and depth gap we were missing.
I hope you are correct. For myself, I don’t think W-L this year is as critical as improvement. I just have a difficult time thinking one recruiting/transfer class, and a new, first time HC, is going to get us a bowl game this year after the damage Carey did.
The recruiting situation for Temple's Class of 2023 is encouraging. 24/7 currently has them ranked #61 - - the highest ranking they've had since 2016 (they went 10-4 in 2016 and won the conference championship).

Brin will rewrite the AAC record books
Covington will get embarrassed in front of 9000 screaming Tulsa fans in October.

Memphis will certainly have a good shot with that quarterback. He's impressive.

Cincy has had the top recruit class in 2022,21,20, 18 and was #2 in 2019. This is why Cats rule. Our 2023 class will also be tops but we will be gone. Free at last, free at last. No more road games at half full sites.
