JMU in top 3 on the CGD favorites list
How crazy would it be if magic happened and we landed CGD 3 this year?
If it was homecoming, might be $1,000 tix.

RE: JMU in top 3 on the CGD favorites list
It's possible, but probably not likely.
A LOT of factors would have to fall into place.
-No big P5 or ranked game to compete with
-Would need a really strong record. 6-0 or 5-1. Not sure 4-2 or less would be good enough.
-Marshall would probably need to have a good record. (Marshall has 2 FCS games this year. Also play ND and Louisiana. 4-2 seems possible for them as well)

Most likely wouldn't have to worry about FCS schools.
Some have said we would have no chance of hosting when we were an FBS school. Would love to prove them wrong. We are not a novelty act.

The P5/ranked games issue applied to FCS also, yet we hosted twice.

The real factor will be our W/L record, and that of our opponents. If a Marshall, Georgia St, or Coastal comes to town with a strong record or top. 25 ranking, it becomes a real possibility.

IMO, our odds are better now than during the FCS era. We might play ranked FBS teams at home, and our game could be broadcast on ESPN. In the past, we were locked on FloSports obscurity, and they still visited.

I agree.
It is a real possibility, for sure. Some actually used to say we had a better chance of hosting as FCS as ESPN wanting to go to "smaller schools". Plus, there aren't that many G5 schools that have hosted GameDay.
While that may be true, we have a really good reputation with ESPN and give them two really good shows with big fan turnout. It obviously hasn't gone unnoticed by those that matter.

Only way it is remotely possible in my mind is if we were somehow undefeated and say Marshall somehow had knocked off ND and was undefeated as well.

The Marshall week is a good week for us though as there are really no other games of huge interest that week though based on how season plays out that could change.

If ....if.... if.... A lot of if's.... We are a one loss team or two loss team with wins over Louisville, Coastal, Marshall you can't tell me they don't waive the transition and put us in a bowl....

That is a written for ESPN story. AND>>>> holy cow if we are undefeated top 25 going into the Coastal game... WOW what a game.

I hear you. And then in the National Championship game, we beat Bama by 30 and Tampa Bay signs our entire 2-deep on both sides of the ball.

Then, JJ woke up, grabbed a cup of coffee, a shower, and took off for work.

And, they call ME a homer!

ND who?

Their crowd wasn't even close to what we brought.
And ... downtown Fargo is not the Burg 04-cheers

Look carefully at the crowd shot 10 seconds in here:

When a fan base actually loses interest because you win too much, that's a huge problem. More and more schools are leaving them behind and FBS looks unlikely any time soon.

Only hosted 2 though, like us. The third appearance was hosted by SDSU.

Chris "The Bear" Fallica mentioned Sept 24 on a podcast as the date they may go to lower profile schools outside the P5. We play at App St that week. My guess is it could end up being an Ivy or HBCU school like Jackson St. Would be pretty cool if App St got it, though.

RE: JMU in top 3 on the CGD favorites list
It’s nice to be thought of so highly by CGD, and deservedly so. That said, it’s not happening this year. Perhaps in a future special situation as has been outlined in earlier posts, but it’s going to be a long shot.

I’ll add one additional possibility…what if it’s an OOC game where JMU is ranked against a ranked VT?

RE: JMU in top 3 on the CGD favorites list
It's always a long shot, but one that's fallen in place twice. I think the best shot is Marshall and I don't know if I'd think the odds are much longer than the two we hosted so far. It would almost certainly need to be with a bit of a different mindset though, before they played up the "only top 25 matchup" angle and iirc longest active winning streak angle right?

If our record isn't 1-5 or something then pretty much 100% chance of being the best and most insane JMU crowd ever right? Then the CGD crowd would be absurd with so many in town for homecoming. We'd have to hope for solid records and then ESPN going "hey we know JMU will be insane no matter when we go anyway, but this one will be on a whole other level."

Also looking at the other games that week I don't see any Alabama vs Georgia type matchups that are clearly going to be a ranked vs ranked and likely top 10-15 matchup unless I'm overlooking something.
