Visiting team takeovers?
This year we may be encountering something we haven't had to deal with at Bridgeforth.
Opposing fan takeovers.
We are playing schools where those fans travel and travel well. And... travel better than us.
We need to be aware of what is coming our way. JMU fans are going to learn quickly that you cannot wait until the last minute to buy tickets.
I believe we will sell out almost every game this season. I do not believe we will get close to selling out Norfolk State.
While some may be concerned we won't sell out, you need to remember that visiting teams are actually going to sell some tickets.
Homecoming vs Marshall.... be prepared for the hardest to get tickets in JMU history. And be ready for Marshall fans to get as many tickets as they can get their hands on. We need to do our part, and I believe we will for Homecoming.
Do not wait to get tickets. The last thing I want to see in Bridgeforth is more colors from the opposing team than our own. Not saying it'll happen, just that we need to be aware it COULD happen.

RE: Visiting team takeovers?
I'm sure the demand from other fan bases will be higher this year. But also from our own fans. Demand looks off the charts. I don't think Norfolk state will sell out, but even that wouldn't shock me looking at the seating chart. There are not tons of unsold seats.

Haven't tried to estimate this the past few weeks, but think we could be in the 8500-9000+ range for season tickets sold now. All the 200's and a good chunk of the 300/400's are basically gone. Even for Norfolk St.

It even looks like we are selling large numbers of GA seats (possibly some games sold out), unless those have been held back until later for most games. They are only shown as available for Texas St, though maybe they are anticipating high student demand also, and not opening up sales.

Get ready for opposing fans to be seated next to you too when your lousy seat neighbor decides to list his tickets for 250% on stubhub.

Do you blame them though.....but hopefully they go to them game instead of selling.

That would be cool. The only issue I see with that is that purple fans might expect a purple discount and get upset about the 'profiteering' of some other fans who are selling, whereas when the ticket sales are done blindly, there is a little less of the pressure and shaming to the ticket office about people making money off their seats.

My POV is if a person is not a STH they need to STFU and pay the damn premiums for Family Day and HC. If they really cared that much about JMU they'd donate to the Duke Club and buy ST. They can always resell or donate tickets to games they can't attend themselves.

I think we’re trending to where it may not be possible to buy direct tickets from JMU without being a DC member within a few years (given expansion will take time). I think at various times in the past, other schools like VT have seen this occur also.

Already this year, it appears to me JMU may be trying to “manage demand” and holding back some seats so students will have some available, etc. Sure, some people used to buying last minute HC or Family Day tickets may complain, but that’s part of growth. Eventually this should grow the DC ranks also. We have around 2,500 last I looked, and it’s increasing.

Season tickets are probably going to be less than the price of a single Homecoming ticket leading up to the game!

Yup- much better to buy the season tix and sell off what you can't use. If you're skipping Homecoming or ESPECIALLY Parents Day, you can recoup a large portion of the cost of the season tix.

RE: Visiting team takeovers?
I expect the only team visiting Bridgeforth this season that will even bring a moderate amount of travelling fans is Marshall.

ODU and App State definitely will on their years in town, but it's hard to really see any of the western team's fans bringing the house ever. Unless they are transplants to the DC area, travel to the Burg is actually a pain in the ass for those outside of driving distance.

What about Coastal? They brought some fans with them in FCS, but no idea how much their fan base travels in FBS or if it would be enough to be concerned.

Agree with Marshall. Homecoming is always a tough ticket to get. Marshall isn't going to have it easy to get tickets for that game, but I certainly believe there will be a lot of them there.

I don't care how much tickets are selling for. There is absolutely no way I'm missing that game!

I was at the Coastal game back in 07 and their attendance was sparse. At the time though, their program was still very new and FCS. I imagine multiple strong seasons with a few Top 25 rankings have helped grow their base since. Still though, Mytle Beach is a solid drive from Harrisonburg.

Sometimes a person can overthink an issue. Nobody…no opponents fan base…will ever “takeover” BFS.

i agree with that. I think some people are used to Redskins, Wizards, Caps and Nationals games where the opposing teams have as much as half the stands. If Marshally weren't homecoming maybe they'd get up to 5k buying seats but I can't imagine any team coming to HC or Parents weekend having that many tickets available to buy.

The only concern on HC or FD is that a lot of people don't leave the tailgate so the opponents might have a larger percentage inside the stadium than the sales would indicate but they're not taking up half of 103 for example. 5-10 people at most (which is what UR or Liberty did in their best years as visitors).

RE: Visiting team takeovers?
Coastal fans aren't known for traveling well. It's supposedly improved some during their recent success but it's still not at the level of marshall, app, odu, etc.

They'll bring probably 500 fans tops, I would guess. That's still more than any CAA team at home over the past 7+ years.

Other posters are correct. Marshall is the only visiting fan pressure this year.

If we ever hosted Tech, I would say it's going to be a 50/50 crowd at best. Could be a majority Tech fan turnout.

I heard when ODU hosted them a few years back (when they upset them), it was an 80/20 split in favor of tech in odu's house. ouch.

Is there an example in VA where Tech has gone on the road and didn't have a majority of the fans?

I must say, this sounds a bit like when some UVA fans were declaring they would takeover AUBC also last year. Lets just say they were a tad bit disappointed 03-lmfao

I’m not saying they won’t bring a good chunk of fans, but 50% is crazy. Especially basing our attendance scenario on the crappy FB fanbases in Charlottesville, Lynchburg & Norfolk. We are not them.

You don’t think JMU fans (who have the first shot at tickets at home) would buy up tons of tickets for a home game vs VPI&SU?
