At last weekend's USATF National Championships, Ari Ince finished 2nd in the javelin throw with a best of 60.43 meters (198' 3").

She will represent the United States at the IAAF World Championships in a little more than 2 weeks at Eugene, Oregon.

She's having a pretty good year for a Rice professional athlete (who still has a real job).

Qualification Round for Women's Javelin will take place tomorrow at the IAAF World Championships. Ari will be in Qualification Group A, beginning at 5:20 p.m. CDT.

Ari is ranked 27th in the world. Top 12 after prelims advance to Friday's finals.

Ari currently at 57.17.

They're saying on TV that she might be on the wrong end of the draw, so to speak. If the wind picks up a bit for the 2nd group, then they might have better throwing conditions. In any case, it will be close for her to make the top 12.

57.24 for 8th in Group A. With Group B to go, it's doubtful she'll advance to finals (top 12).

Correct. The last qualifier (Mackenzie Little/Australia) threw 59.06. (https://www.worldathletics.org/competiti...ion/result)

Yesterday, in Zagreb, Ari set a lifetime best in the javelin with 64.38 meters (211' 4").

That mark makes her the #4 American all-time, #8 in the world this year, and gives her an automatic Olympic qualifying mark!
