RE: Report of new B12 commish
Bruce Feldman tweeted Yormark was wowed people at his interview. Big idea guy with non-stop energy and a rolodex like no other in terms of connections.
If this is indeed the hire the BXII is following the same model as the PAC12 in hiring a younger guy from outside college athletics. The report states the three finalists were all from outside college athletics. This tells me the conference is looking to do things unconventionally going forward. Yormark reportedly had a lot of connections in the digital world.

This revamped Big12 without its two biggest cash cows may just need someone from outside the collegiate landscape to figure out how its going to survive financially. And let's face it, college sports has long been removed from being about the academics or about the students so I don't know why they would need someone from the collegiate world.

Agreed. Having someone with his experience and contacts in the sports and entertainment world may be good for this new wave of the future. He may surprise some folks by landing a new, creative and lucrative TV contract. In this day and age and the way things are trending, I'd rather think outside the box than have your typical old school traditional Commissioner/AD's like Marinatto and Bowsby who were asleep at the wheel while their once mighty conferences (BE and Big12) were falling apart around them.
(and this coming from an older guy like myself who typically thinks "old school")

I'll second that. A visionary commissioner, particularly one well versed in new media opportunities, can be complemented by a capable "college insider" type deputy or COO. The next "media deal" may determine the long-term future of the B12.
Even without UT, one can argue the TX market is well covered by TTU, UH, Baylor, and TCU. OSU may be #2 in Oklahoma but still has a following. Now add BYU's national interest along with a booming Orlando and major league metro in Cincy and media rights should be an interesting storyline for the "new" Big 12.
