DM - Seats for Service Program Column - Impact
The DM published a column today about the impact of the "Seats for Service" program offered for football and now basketball games. About 3,000 tickets have been distributed over the years to veterans - many of whom suffer from substance abuse.

Quote:“It taught me how to live,” said Larry Wright, 71, who served in the U.S. Army from 1970 to 1972. “I didn’t know you could go to a game and not get drunk. Now, I go to every game sober. I can’t wait for next season to begin.”

I urge Tiger fans to join me and consider buying tickets for this worthy cause via phone call to the ticket office (901-678-2331) or on-line (https://gotigersgo.evenue.net/cgi-bin/nc...appCode=). The cost is only $10 per ticket.

Give credit where credit is due. John Stacy made this happen.

I can't read the article because I'm not a subscriber, but I've been buying these tickets every year for the past few years since I saw it on the website. Seems like a great way to support the football program, help a really good cause, and fill up the stadium for a very low cost. What a great program.

A worthy cause for a deserving group of heros. Thanks for the reminder.

That's pretty awesome. I wonder how they give out the tickets to military bases.

the article alludes to a first come, first served system. One of the gentleman interviewed made mention of trying to be one of the fist people in line to guarantee himself a game ticket. with all of the visibly unsold tickets for most games, they should just use the tarped off endzone for veterans/first responders/educators/medical personnel free seating. maybe have show up with a valid badge/military id and get 2 tickets in that section. it's not like it would cost the university a fortune or anything as that section is lost potential revenue anyways. it would look good on tv, bring in extra $$ from the concession share, and would make a positive impact on many lives.

I like your idea, but there is the perception of decking value for ticket holders paying full price and debasing price points. I think expansion of the program is merited, however, using donated funds. The program receives insufficient marketing and PR support, IMO

so maybe start towards an upper section of the LBMS?

only thing with that, it doesn't do much to help the gameday visuals on TV. Until construction starts on that section, assuming there will be construction there, I still think they should try to get people in that section just for the visual aspect on tv, maybe combine vets, first responders etc. as well as the Big Brother outreach groups. The large tarp just screams "local disinterest" compared to the visuals of similar programs in the AAC.
