RE: CUSA to have new TV Deal?
Wouldn't that be pretty tough logistically to move games to another week with a short notice? I'd be pissed if I had made travel plans and then they moved the game back a week.

It doesn't make sense to hold a CCG with a round robin schedule from a competitive standpoint. But from a financial one? It probably does.

The Big 12's been playing one with a round robin schedule. You just give somebody a second chance in a rematch. It's not ideal in the sporting sense, but we'll do it anyway.

If they can get financial compensation and linear TV slot they will have one

I agree they don't really need one though.

Could part of ESPNs reason for not nego. with CUSA be having to deal with a female commissioner? ESPN has a history of unpaying women. Does seem odd the only G5 conference ESPN shuns is the one lead by a women. Will be interesting if this holds true or ESPN tried to lowball the only conference lead by a woman.

Big 12 is a bit different than CUSA.

If SEC had a woman commissioner, they wouldn’t have issues negotiating with ESPN.

The MWC doesn't have an ESPN deal either. ESPN didn't negotiate with CUSA in the past because of how they ended there ESPN contract the last go round.

CUSA has a different commissioner and 8 out of 9 schools are different from that time period.

RE: CUSA to have new TV Deal?
And the only remaining school from 2.0 had its President (when the decision was made in 2011) going into retirement in 2019 and sadly passed away last year. The AD who might have influenced her decision back then retired in 2018.

Unless ESPN really really hates UTEP which they don’t, they at least will listen to what C-USA has to say along with other providers. It’s childish to think ESPN will punish an entire conference when 11 of the 12 schools left for conferences that have an exclusive deal with them.

It's not a question of petulance on ESPN's part, but rather a question of value C-USA provides with the new lineup, if there is anything worth spending anything on.

I'm very sure ESPN will happily provide production assistance services and be willing to air content on ESPN+ and maybe ESPN3. But I doubt they are willing to pay for anything. They already have plenty of programming, in fact so much they actually made a sub-lease deal with CBSSN to air some MAC games through 2027. ESPN is already committed to the SEC game of the week on top of their other ABC/ESPN offerings, plus they have the full SEC, ACC and AAC content, significant MAC and SBC content, and very likely will continue to have large shares of the B1G, Pac-12 and Big 12 packages. They really don't need any content. But as a service provider they'll be happy to set up a "you produce it" ESPN3/ESPN+ channel. (I think of this as like Amazon, Google, et al setting up ecosystem for businesses to use where they sell their services; it's totally up to the users to sell their wares; in this sense like Google, ESPN acts like the Levi Strauss company in the gold rush days, selling jeans and wares to the miners.)

But if C-USA wants to get paid they need to find somebody who is willing to pay for their product. Is CBS interested enough in having content for their channels from C-USA? Is Facebook or Amazon or somebody else interested in filler content? Frankly the filler content market is really all there is out there for C-USA.

All I can say is good luck. They have about 6 months to get something lined up and less than 3 months more to get the details ironed out and the contracts signed. Really there should be some rumors already, but there are none.

Yep, it comes on Samsung extended channels here. channel 1050+ Watched NBA draft coverage on it Thursday.

I think it makes sense to have one. Even if paid 1mil for TV. play it at highest ranked stadium to keep down cost.

RE: CUSA to have new TV Deal?
CUSA is at the point where giving away the product for almost free to have unique exposure building opportunity, where they can have lots of control is all that's left on the table. they literally waited until the train completely ran off the tracks to have these negotiations take place. Their current value is at an at time low and the perception is that it will be like this for an extended time. This is the time to take whatever gamble can produce major impact years down the road, and suck up some losses in the meantime.

That’s not the point I was making.

There’s tons of threads and posts on this board about how ESPN still holds a grudge against C-USA from a decision that was made 11 years ago. If C-USA offers anything in return is irrelevant. The point is it’s laughable to think ESPN is punishing an entire conference that will totally be different in 2023 than the one that told ESPN to get lost in 2011.

I tend to agree. ESPN signed a deal with CUSA in 2018, right?

IMO that was evidence that there was no bad blood between them as of that time, so IMO no reason to think there is now.

They did. Games on ESPN+ and games can be moved to the main ESPN channels if a game is of any significance like last year’s ranked and undefeated UTSA playing 6-1 UTEP.

I can see ESPN watching Liberty very closely if they become a dominant force in the conference. If that happens, they can get preferred treatment over the rest just like Boise State and the MWC. The other 8 will put up with it as long as they get some exposure and for the sake of “stability”.

Ill add that Liberty appears to have a good working relationship with ESPN. Our TV contract as an Indy guarantees 1 home game on a linear ESPN channel with the Network's option to move & air another game to Thursday or Friday night. Several of our home games have been on ESPN2, ESPNU & ESPNews with some of the games using our broadcast crew. Most to all of home games in almost every sport we have, including some Club Sports (all ACHA D1 Men's Hockey) are aired one ESPN3 or ESPN+. I've also heard that our AD is leading New CUSA's TV negotiating efforts. McCaw also said in a recent interview that CUSA would announce a new TV contract within the next few months. The exact definition of "the next few months" is left of to speculation, as he doesn't really ever spill the beans.

As far as our athletic "dominance" or performance in New CUSA, we'll see. I think we'll definitely be in the upper half of the conference, and contend in most sports. But I think New CUSA will be better than most think, and it should be really good in MBB.

The only thing the female thing has to do with is would be that she was the no 2 person when the league told espn, we dont want you we want to go to fox.
