I barely hear anyone who are excited for the World Games. I have also seen World Games shirts and hoodies still hanging on the racks at Hibbett

Softball for sure.

Team Handball and Korfball are the 2 I'm most excited to see

Definitely going when I’m in town.

I’d like to, but the ticket prices I’ve seen are in the $50 range. That’s expensive for a family of 4 to see a sport it will take me half the time there to figure out what’s going on.

Is there a media outlet for the games???

I'm contemplating volunteering. Twenty hours gets you eight tickets. Time's gotta be running out to sign up, though.

I have a message board acquaintance coming in to cover billiards, will probably catch a session there. Martial arts. Lacrosse. The Iroquois Nation team is competing. Drone races mebbe.

They had some $35 day passes go on sale lately. Would be an excellent way to hop around with a family to see a few things. Only negative is that it doesn't guarantee you access if the event is super crowded or sold out (like Sumo appears to be).

Might go to Lacrosse since thats what sorta ducats I won in the UAB faculty/staff lottery.

I heard from an inside source that ticket sales had topped 300,000 across the board.

That's great. No way is that all local, either, so lots of out of town dollars incoming.

I am volunteering.

Im out of the country but if I wasn't I'd probably attend a couple of events just to support the city and because it's mildly intriguing. I will be very interested to see how this event does in Bham and what the gauge for success is. I don't see this drawing in out of town visitors, with the exception of the people that are coming to support the athletes themselves. Im pretty sure most people have never heard of the World Games. I know I hadn't until it was announced Bham was hosting it a few years ago. I could see this being a total bust but maybe not. Im sure there will be some people who get wealthy from it.

The World Games starts today with the opening ceremony at Protective Stadium

Bootsy Collins, Nelly, Alabama,Shelia E. and Tony Toni Toné will be performing

I’m going to softball, fistball, and korfball, as well as the closing ceremonies.

Been watching the opening ceremonies. They’ve had some production glitches, but otherwise been ok.

And a national anthem mishap.

Wasn’t expecting Olympic type production, but that got bad at the end. Not sure why there was so much dead time between acts, not like they were doing a set change. Would have been one act coming off as the other walked on.

Also, Randy Owen is getting old.
