How doesn't a hip hop fan not heard of someone like NAS, or someone like Alex not hear a Metallica song? Sure some songs might get past many, but come one. I grew up in the 90s, but I knew who Pink Floyd, The Doors, The Beatles, Led Zeplan and many other 50's through 80's rock bands or many of my mom's disco stuff. Heck, I knew of most rockabilly country singers of the 70's and 80's. I get some people like Brad and Lex or LFR doing metal and rock of the 80's through 90s, and it being knew to them. But zero way Lex never heard a single
Eminem song; zero way possible.
I get where you are coming from but...
I've found that there is hearing stuff and actual listening to stuff.
I've also found that not everyone listens to everything so I can't judge anyone saying they haven't heard it or its a first time reaction or they do/don't listen to any particular genre of music.
Not quite ready to go full fake reactions by some youtubers but where I see some shady stuff is lets say, NoLifeShaq for example, no way you are as big of a Eminem fan as he claims to be and not heard his older material.... And unless, an album drops that day and you do a video that day, if you are a fan, you would have already listened to it. Although, I have found that many reactors doing "current hip hop" aren't as versed in old school artists as I would think they should be for what they like. Most rock/metal/country reactors do know more about the classic artists of said genres they are familiar with. I also think that is kind of the thing between genres, classic rock is its own format where classic rap isn't.... Then again, I as out of touch with some new stuff and these new guys are to the old stuff.... And I do generally hate being the old guy saying "it was better back in my day..." but when a lot of youtubers I like go that route with their own reaction I find maybe I am right LOL.
Or, if via doing reactions, you like someone, how would you not try to listen to their catalog? I get a keeping it fresh angle but.... Especially with the ease of access now with things like AppleMusic, Spotify, Amazon, ect ... on the digital front.
I've kind of gone in to a mode of either I know the song or band already and so I want to hear their opinions and if their opinions align with my thoughts on similar artists and songs I will be willing to hear their thoughts on different artists and songs I don't know about.
Of the ones I have mentioned, I have had a long standing relationship with their reactions so I kind of trust or want to hear their comments on stuff I am familiar with and then I am also interested to hear what they about artists I am not familiar with.
I think I get more out of interacting in the comments section with some of the videos though.
