Conference realignment predictions this season
What could we expect this upcoming season in terms of realignment?

Will the CUSA add an additional member or members?

Will there be additional realignment at the FBS level?

Will Howard finally join the CAA?

Will the FCS realignment carousel finally stop?

Will there be additional D2 upgrades?

RE: Conference realignment predictions this season
- CUSA will add. My guess is they go to 10 with Eastern Kentucky.
- No P5 movement. Other than CUSA adding Eastern Kentucky, I think the G5 sits as well unless the MAC strongly considers going to 14. If so, Western Kentucky is a shoe-in plus, maybe, Massachusetts if they would be serious about leaving the A10. CUSA would then be back at 9 and might sit or try to get back to 10.
- I think Howard does jump eventually but maybe no announcement this next year. Howard leaving would not be the straw that broke the MEAC’s back. It’s been in decay for a few years. Looking at the options, I can’t imagine a conference being a better (realistic) fit than the CAA except maybe the Patriot League.
- FCS carousel will never stop. There’s a lot of spots “open” and conferences in or near some deep doo-doo. Changes will happen. I suspect at least some from Division II.

The SEC, looking for more lucrative opportunities and not satisfied with their place in football, will apply to join the NFL. They will also need to meet the demands of the salary cap, dropping the overall salary of the players involved.

Why wouldn't they have invited them already if they had intended to? It's the same as with the Big 12 -- if they'd wanted Memphis or whoever else in their post-OUT alignment, they would have invited them with the other 4. It would be only if CUSA or the Big 12 lost additional members that they would invite more.

I'd think Cal Baptist would have a better shot than Grand Canyon, and that's not saying much.

CUSA has not added another as they are waiting out Transformation Committee. They also have no interest in having more than two institutions transitioning from FCS to FBS at a given time.

We shall see what the transformation piece looks like; that group has already started with compliance and enforcement recommendations. The big domino is membership requirements

GCU has the recent NCAA bid, two consecutive baseball regional bids in a row, the location and the money to bribe their way in if needed.

Chicago State will cheat death and remain in D1 for another year. They will, however, remain independent and in chaos.

They're still seen as a for-profit so the WCC will continue to ignore them.

Largely dependent on what the TV exec's want. Big 10 and PAC 12 media negotiations will tell the tale. The ACC GOR is very prohibitive for those teams to move. The Big 10 would have to raid the PAC 12 or the PAC 12 will have to look at the Big 12 / MWC members. It will be interesting, but after this it should cool down and we'll just have to watch an SEC team win the ship 90% of the time. They have all the advantages of the current broken system. Roy Kramer set this in motion a long time ago!

They will remain Division I, but only because there is no stomach at the NCAA to enforce anything real. They will be wildly out of compliance with everything.

Here are confirmed moves for 2023 (in green) and moves based on my speculation (in blue). All subject to change, of course.

The Big 12 GOR will help the ACC since they also have a GOR in affect keep everyone in fold until it runs out. Apparently they are well written and easily enforceable.

I think we could include Grand Valley State, Le Moyne, New haven, Mercyhurst, Central Oklahoma, and several other D2 that have been rumored the past few years going to D1. They could be waiting for that transformation information changes.
