You make posts like this and then wonder why we don't have an OCS, and blame everyone under the sun for it.

I make posts like this to point out we have way too many tickets available for the demand at the Liberty Bowl… which then forces us to bastardize the value of the product. Fans who would pay “x” can move 1 section over & now pay 1/2 that amount.

How in the hell can the school ever expect to make the current football reality profitable?

You are answering your own question. How can the school have faith that the fanbase as a whole will help them raise $200 million?

No. I am explaining why years & years of playing in an oversized concrete municipally owned behemoth of a stadium has cheapened the fan experience & expectation; & the only way out of that death spiral is to invest in an OCS tailored to the needs of the university & not to the needs of the city & local developers.

Marc - in case you didn't get the memo.... that ain't happening. We're renovating the LB. Move on brother, life goes on.

Sorry, but I’m going to rail against that short sighted, bush league decision as long as I can type.

Its an even money bet right now nothing will happen. Inflation is out of control and the economy is tanking. Have you seen any updates or has there been a donation drive?

Sadly we are 30 years too late.

I’ve heard very little. I honestly believe they thought there would be an awful lot of excitement around the announcement but the opposite has actually been true. Most alumni wanted an on campus stadium & I don’t think many are terribly excited about another public/private white elephant. If the school cannot act within its own self interest & build an on campus facility then the school does not deserve to bypass candidates who can. In my opinion, when they made that announcement, they resigned themselves to forever being on the outside looking in; & its hard to get excited & build capital campaigns around that.

We "updated" parts of the LBMS a few years ago hoping for a look from another conference and got passed over. Why do they think an even more expensive renovation would change that? Put the $$$ towards an easily expandable OC facility, start reasonable, and expand in the near future where necessary! UCF got it with a glorified HS stadium!

Only a group of our own fans can't seem to understand that a $200 million investment in facilities will be universally seen as a massive financial commitment. It is mind boggling.

Only our own fans. Incredible.

We don't know what's going on in the background. Probably one more round of expansions. If we get in then the revenue will be rolling in and the school will have some money to spend on an on campus stadium, wherever that mystery location is.

If we don't get in a P5 conference then the renovated Liberty Bowl will be all we need.

RE: $10 Kroger Tickets
FYI, on the topic of cheap tickets.
If you are considering supporting the Tigers in the season opener @ Starkville, MSU currently has a promotion where you can get 4 tickets & a parking pass for $59. Basically the same price as UM 4 Kroger tickets + parking for home opener with Ark St.

This price increases to $69 in July & $79 in August.

I do not currently see a link for away game tickets on GTG, although I do remember having the option to request tickets to that game during the season ticket renewal process.

Reminds me of a UAB game I attended years ago. We pulled into the parking lot and a guy came up to us with a ticket that would get 4 people in along with a hot dog and a coke. He wanted $30 for it but I paid him $20. I was happy with my purchase until another guy came up and said, "Did you pay him for that ticket? They are giving them away at that booth over there."

Heres to 40 more years at the Liberty Bowl!

Glad to hear Kroger is still supporting the Tigers. Kroger pays the Tigers for the tickets then discounts and sells them for $10. There are better seats available, but it makes it possible for some families who wouldn't ordinarily be able to afford to attend to enjoy a local rivalry football game. I am getting excited already. AsT usually presents a challenge for the Tigers and that is a good thing. I really think they would have been a better add than Rice, but that boat has sailed.

Why? Because the size of the stadium forces the university to sell tickets at high school prices in order to make the crowd look respectable. People do not buy season tickets because they can pick up cheap/discounted tickets at Kroger.

The university is not selling discounted tickets Marc. Kroger is being a good corporate citizen and buying the tickets from the university and selling the at a discounted price.

FedEx does the same thing and gives the tickets away free to its employees

You are so negative

I've worked at FEDEX since 04
They haven't done that for 15 years or so. We used to get discounted tix to Redbirds,
St. Jude golf Tournament, Tigers FB and BB games, but not anymore.

Still use discount for travel in retirement

Sure they do. Its because that school knows that their students' mommies and daddies are the ones happily footing that bill.

There are plenty of mommies & daddies footing the bills at Memphis.

Currently, full-time Memphis students are admitted free to football and basketball games. I would guess that if Memphis decided to charge students $155 for tickets, more Memphis mommies and daddies would say no than the Ole Miss mommies and daddies.

It was part of an activity fee when I did my time.

Sure they do. Its because that school knows that their students' mommies and daddies are the ones happily footing that bill.

my friend was an asst manager at an apt complex in Oxford. When the kids got behind on rent or damaged a unit it was always the same story...she would end up calling the parents and billing their card over the phone.
