AAC football scheduling format
Anyone know how the AAC plans to set their football schedules up?

East - West ? Thought I heard an 8 game schedule, but not sure.

If it is East - West:

EAST

UAB
Charlotte
ECU
Temple
USF
FAU
Memphis

WEST

UTSA
SMU
Tulane
Tulsa
N. TX.
Rice
Navy (Navy in the past wanted to be in the west)

Maybe 6 division games and 2 against the other division?

I think by the time we get there, divisions will be nonexistent. Wave of the future.

I don’t think there will be divisions. That seems to be the trend. Rather they will give each team a couple of permanent rivals and then rotate everything through. Keeps the league more connected and the schedules more interesting.

Would hope uab and memphis are paired, of course.

Navy doesn’t want it be in “the west” as much as they would prefer be with the private schools no matter where they are on the map. Rice, SMU, Tulsa and Tulane. They don’t particularly want to be in a division with huge public universities. Just so happens those private schools are all in the western half of the aac.

The beauty of the 3-5-5 model is that you play everyone in two years. And home and away every four years. And you have 3 really strong rivalries within your conference.

Do you just make stuff up and throw it out there as fact?

Navy did indeed want to be in the AAC Western Division. They wanted to play games in Texas for recruiting purposes. No mention was ever made about private vs. public universities.

Quote:Naval Academy officials lobbied to be placed in the West and got their wish on Friday when the American Athletic Conference announced its division alignments...

"We preferred to be in the West and actually were very insistent that be the case," Naval Academy athletic director Chet Gladchuk said. "We are very grateful to the commissioner and member schools for accommodating our wishes."

Navy recruits heavily in Texas, Oklahoma and Tennessee - states it will now visit on a regular basis because it will play its division partners every year.

"We had no interest in being geographically parochial. We are a national program and playing in the West Division fits that identity," Gladchuk said.

Curious who the UAB fans would want as their 3 schools that they play every year.

Who do you want?
1. Memphis
2. Tulane
3. ?

I’d actually prefer UNT or UTSA over Charlotte or FAU as the third.

Same thing for me, I doubt it happens, but it would be my preference. I assume the only sure thing is Memphis for us.

No, I did not. It is inherent that these to things overlap.

What programs that will likely be the "UAB 3" have the best traveling fan base. Travel helps build rivalries.
