Clayton Williams ® managed to lose the 1990 gubernatorial race to Ann Richards (D) despite winning the Rio Grande Valley. Both he and his wife Modesta made appearances in the Valley, speaking in Spanish (in which both were fluent). Outside of that, he ran probably the worst campaign ever, edging out Ted Cruz versus Robert Francis O'Rourke because Ted still won.

Some refer to them as Tio Tacos. It's stupid but it is what it is. I call them smart hispanics that have finally seen the light from the darkness. That's me from an earlier age who listened to my union member dad and his love for the Demons. The Republican party is called the Right for a reason.
