Auburn is eliminated.

Arkansas plays Ole Miss tomorrow in semifinals, has to beat them twice to advance to finals.

Another 200+ minute game.

No use bit'chin when you're out of pit'chin!

We were spent by the third. It dragged out because Butch emptied the bench in the 7th , 8th and 9th down 9-1 so all the kids could say they played in the CWS.

It was a great year for my Tigers and I'm proud of them and for them! Arkansas is deep in pitching, not starters, but a lot of solid arms. The Hogs could easily play Ole Miss twice and move on the finals. Either will represent the SEC well. A&M isn't out of it. Oklahoma is strong but if they run out of pitching A&M and the Sooners in a slug fest could get interesting.

Auburn baseball is definitely on the upswing. Two CWS appearances in the past three years. They could well be back next year.

These games drag on too long though. Not just this one, all of the CWS games seem to take three and a half hours. It's just ridiculous, IMO.

RE: CWS Bracket and opening round Schedule
Congratulations to Oklahoma!

The Sooners beat Texas AM 5-1 to advance to the CWS Finals series, where they await the winner of the Ole Miss/Arkansas bracket.

TAMU is eliminated, the first SEC team to be eliminated in this CWS by a non-SEC team.

Oklahoma is playing for their third CWS title. They won the national title in 1951 and 1994.

Congratulations also to TAMU, who began the season unranked but rose to the #5 national seed, winning the SEC West, a division that produced three CWS teams and two other NCAA tournament teams. They upheld their seed better than any other seeded team did.

Final 3 teams and not a single top 16 seed. Arkansas despite being unseeded was #13 in the final poll. Oklahoma was #22. Ole Miss was unranked.

Let's keep it going!

This team came out of nowhere. They finished tied for 2nd in the Big 12, but got hot at the end of the season. They won the Big 12 tournament, the Gainesville regional, the Blacksburg super regional, and have now won their bracket in Omaha.

Baseball has a cult following in Norman. The average attendance this year was 816. That's eight hundred and sixteen. The softball team drew more (understandably). OU moved the conference home series with Texas to Arlington for money (Details were never disclosed, but the Rangers made it worth their while to fill a weekend lost to the MLB lockout).

There were already plans to update the ballpark, but those have now been put on the front burner. There was a plan for $10 million worth of improvements, but that has been upped to $30 million with the move to the SEC. Not sure if there will be an increase in capacity from the current 3100. A donor announced a $5 million pledge yesterday. The money people realize they have to spend money to compete across the board in the SEC. It's not a one-trick pony conference, and baseball is a huge deal there.

I went to a OU coaches' caravan stop last month. The athletic director spoke, and talked of all the highly ranked teams: men's and women's gymnastics, softball, men's golf, women's tennis. Baseball wasn't mentioned. The baseball team was winning Big 12 series, but national competitiveness wasn't on the radar. Fast forward a month, and we're in Omaha playing for a national championship.

May as well go ahead and win it all.

That bolded number is mind-boggling to me. SEC schools just to the east draw 6,000 or 7,000 fans a game.

And the OU program is not a Cinderella program. This team may have come out from nowhere, but OU is one of only 15 programs with two national titles, and this is their 11th trip to the CWS and 38th NCAA tournament appearance.

So it's a long proud tradition of winning, which makes that attendance amazing.

RE: CWS Bracket and opening round Schedule
Well, today, June 23, we decide the second team in the CWS Finals.

Arkansas vs Ole Miss ............ 3 PM CT ............. ESPN2

Winner will face Oklahoma Saturday evening in the first CWS Finals game. Loser heads home.

Good news for OU, as they will be resting their arms today while these two play a winner-take-all game in which all hands, and arms, will be on deck.

So it's a long proud tradition of winning, which makes that attendance amazing.

As mentioned, the home series with Texas was moved to Arlington. The three games had an average attendance of 6361. That's a good college crowd, but gets swallowed up in a major league stadium. More than half of that crowd were Texas fans, as well.

Series with Oklahoma State are normally played at neutral sites using larger minor league parks in Oklahoma City and Tulsa. This year, OSU was the home team and played the series in their new home stadium. OU and OSU also played a mid-week game in Tulsa that did not count in the conference standings. So there are fans, but they're not necessarily coming to games in Norman. We'll have many more people in Omaha for games than in Norman. The bandwagon is big.

OU fans love football and any sport that wins national championships. Right now, that's softball, which just won its sixth NC in dominating fashion. It's national championship or bust. Really, it's dynasty or bust. For the fan base, all sports are held to the same standard as the football program. And it's going on 22 years since the last NC in football. Baseball is in the same boat as basketball: traditionally very good, but not great; therefore liked, but not loved.

This is one area in which the SEC will be a huge culture change for Oklahoma. The SEC is not a one-trick pony.

Well De Lucia went the full 9 and shut out the Hogs! One helluva a two game performance which makes my Tigers gain a little solace. If Ole Miss wins it all here's your MVP!

Ole Miss advances to the CWS Finals!

Ole Miss beats Arkansas 2-0.

This game took just 2 hours and 6 minutes, thanks to the complete game shutout by the Ole Miss pitcher.

Ole Miss vs Oklahoma for the title!

Yes, tremendous pitching performance. I don't think Arkansas ever had a runner on 3rd base, and only once did they get a runner to 2nd base, and that was on a couple of fluky infield singles in the 8th inning.

That was 10 years ago.

I remember it well because I was living in Baton Rouge, and they are almost as crazy about their baseball as they are about football. Stony Brook defeated LSU in the Super Regional to advance to that CWS, a simply unthinkable outcome for LSU's fan base.

IIRC, Stony Brook then went "two and a barbecue" in Omaha, but it was a storybook run to the CWS nonetheless.

#8 in the SEC, with a losing record in conference vs. #3 in the Big 12.

All is not lost for the Sooners.

The last three seasons, the CWS winner lost game one but rallied to win games two and three to win the title.

In fact, over the last six seasons, only one time has the game one winner ended up the champ. The game one loser has won five of the last six titles.

That one time was 2017, when Florida swept LSU two games to none. So the last five times a series has gone three games, the game one loser has won it.

Uh, yeah. De Lucia would pitch game #3. The Sooners needed to win tonight. Great pitching generally beats great hitting. Ole Miss has the deeper pen after tonight and has better starters. Some here act like they had some bad conference record. They started the season down 2 starters who didn't come back to mid season. Auburn started down 1 starter and he didn't come back until the final 2 series.

No doubt if the Sooners get base runners they create havoc with speed and both teams have power. OU absolutely deserves to be in the finals. And I knew this series could go either way, but if the Sooners had won tonight they wouldn't face De Lucia. That was their easiest pathway. Advantage Ole Miss.

BTW, Ole Miss pitching shut out Southern Miss in the Super-Regionals 10-0 and 5-0. Southern Miss was very very good! Auburn scored 51 runs in their 3-0 sweep of their Regional. We were lucky to get the one run off Du Lucia. The kid's slider leaves the best hitters looking foolish.

I would have thought Ole Miss would be arm weary due to playing Arkansas twice. Are you sure they have the rested pitcing to finish off OU?

We in crimson can only hope recent history repeats itself. But, if we get to Monday night, the Rebels will throw DeLucia on three days rest.

I'm not giving up yet, but it doesn't look good for the crimson and cream.
