Zero tradition, small fan bases that will not travel and they will not move the meter getting casual fans to games. It is C-USA all over again. We would have been better off not adding anyone.
You could not be more wrong.
The new teams eliminate every other G5 conference from consideration for the new year's bowl.
Only other conference with any consideration would be MWC and they're basically an one pony show.
The AAC cherry picked the other G5 conference and will remain a PG1 conference.
Need to look at more than just the names on the front of the uniform.
I am looking at the name on the uniform and I see schools that no one cares about and don't move any needle.
UAB may not excite you...but they have been a very decent football program the last few years.
They've done it with a smaller budget than Memphis. Their tv revenues have been smaller...and they weren't in as good of time slots as Memphis and other AAC schools have been/
They even had a football season cancelled because of in-state big brother Alabama.
Depite that...the coach stayed...recruited like the devil, and kept that school relevant in Conference CUSA.
With added exposure...and tv money...that school can transform itself like Memphis did when we left CUSA for the AAC.
Another school...UTSA has been pretty good as of late,
Its still too early to say whether they can continue that streak or not..but again with added tv revenue and a higher profile than much of the other G5 schools get...they can also invest in their program.
Get off your high horse and see that it could have been much worse for our conference in terms of membership.
I DO think they laid a huge egg by adding Rice. For football and basketball, they make absolutely no sense.
Baseball is the only sport that seems like it will benefit from that move.
