Memphis really needs to figure a way out of the AAC because beginning in 2023 it is simply CUSA 4.0.

CUSA 4.0! I am truly weary of Tiger fans constantly denigrating the Tigers Conference. The winner of this conference title will always be a very competitive and worthy champion. I am looking forward to the Tigers winning another title soon. The fact that the Tigers won one title and shared one title over the last 10 years has always put the lie to the claim that our conferences haven't been worthy. I like sport, I am a Tiger fan, I can't wait for the next season to begin, and for the next championship to come.

Gotta face reality. The AAC is taking a BIG, big hit with these three leaving. Anyone who says otherwise is just being intentionally dumb.

NIL dollars have changed the landscape of fb and men's bb - permanently. If Memphis can't get into the B12 - which will become a shadow of itself when Texas and OU leave - then it has no chance to remain what Fuente and Norvell made it in fb - None.

The B12 minus UT & OU will be about a half-step better than the current AAC but even it was the same treading water is still better than back sliding.

Oh, it won't happen overnight - it never does. It will be a long, slow, somewhat gentle slide back down the ladder to fb irrelevance. You will wake up in 5-6 years and realize what's happened.

I have to disagree ----if this conference was/is a quality conference ---then why have we been trying to get out... being champ of conference USA 2.0 --would be like a boxing champion never fighting the actual contenders ---just fighting those washed up with glass jaws and bleeders

If/when the next shakeup comes we better hope we get in the club----because if we are not #2 on everybodys list again --and we are left out again--then we will be akin to division 2--we are in trouble -its over as we know it. If we get left out again --then those pinning over a tiny mickey mouse stadium might get their wish when they tarp over 1/2 the seats in MEMPHIS MEMORIAL STADIUM for the 10K that will be attending

I suppose this is your effort at being positive. It is positively a failure in that regard.

Positive ? Negative ?----just being a realist !----and you questioning my fandom and others in threads is not productive either --------people don't have to be happyclappers all the time to be fans

I agree, but those who are always negative really shouldn't consider themselves fans.

Me and mine have been in that stadium when there were a hell of a lot less than 10K .. next point?

Look at Southern Miss. That's a worse case scenario.

The only way to compete with the P5 is to beat them at their own game.

Forget even the pretense of football players being students.

Offer classes but don't require them. Let their days be filled with nothing but football related activities be it practice, film, weights, cardio, nutrition, etc.

Figure out how to outbid the P5 by such a wide margin that it's 'can't say no' money.

Of course, figuring out a plan like this might get you a season or two of advantage but then everyone else would just copy you. Gotta always stay ahead of the mob...

What can Memphis do that not only separates it from other G5 schools but puts it on par with at least mid rung P5 programs? Can't just do what everyone else is doing.....

Embrace the cesspool that is big time college athletics or get left out.

Good

Let's win the AAC title every year

Have the championship game in Memphis every year

Sprinkle in a P5 or two every year

Get the New Year Day bowl every year

When life gives you lemons, grab the salt and tequila

No… we were told here that we were easily 2nd on the B12 list and none of the current schools wanted Houston. It doesn’t really matter anymore. We’re stuck with the left behinds and CUSA call ups. Tigers will always be my team but we are 1 year away from being in a totally meaningless football and basketball conference. Didn’t even renew my football or basketball season tix. Just not much reason to care going forward.

I am confident there are many more Tiger fans who support the program better than you fortunately.

No doubt. I'm still looking forward to next season and am optimistic that good times are ahead.

This has been a quality conference. How many New years 6 bowls have AAC teams been to...3? 4? (with UCF I lost count)
1 team made it to the playoffs from this conference last season...so that tells you what the quality of the AAC has been.
Who is to say that it cannot be rebuilt?
The teams coming in will get the same higher profile on tv that our teams have had over other G5 conferences...along with increased recruiting opportunities.
It is up to each individual incoming team to make the sacrifices needed to compete that teams like Memphis, Houston, Cinci, and UCF have made...but I think at least 1 or 2 incoming teams...maybe even 3 will be that willing.

Bowls mean zero nowadays --back in the 70's when there were 10 ? bowls they meant something ----however I agree with much you said ----and hope you are correct --but again if we are not #2 on everyone's list next go-round --then TIGER sports as we have known it becomes division 2

The schools coming in bring nothing to the table. Zero tradition, small fan bases that will not travel and they will not move the meter getting casual fans to games. It is C-USA all over again. We would have been better off not adding anyone.

The fact that the Tigers won one title and shared one title over the last 10 years has always put the lie to the claim that our conferences haven't been worthy. I like sport, I am a Tiger fan, I can't wait for the next season to begin, and for the next championship to come.

Me and mine have been in that stadium when there were a hell of a lot less than 10K .. next point?

The point is we had moved beyond that and the AAC had some traction. Hope you enjoyed being there with less that 10K cause you may well see it again. Football recruiting will take a hit. How do you sell home games with powerhouse teams like UNCC coming to town with their 1000 or so fans? I would bet that there are people that go to school there unaware they have a football program. My current vehicle is older than their football program. That is who were now in a conference with.

You could not be more wrong.

The new teams eliminate every other G5 conference from consideration for the new year's bowl.

Only other conference with any consideration would be MWC and they're basically an one pony show.

The AAC cherry picked the other G5 conference and will remain a PG1 conference.

Need to look at more than just the names on the front of the uniform.

The best way out is to dominate the league on the football field every year.

I agree with this. It's still the strongest G5 conference and the winner will most likely be in a New Year's Six bowl. That said, I think scheduling more P5 out of conference games would also be a good idea.

Let's win the AAC title every year

Have the championship game in Memphis every year

Sprinkle in a P5 or two every year

Get the New Year Day bowl every year

When life gives you lemons, grab the salt and tequila

This right here. ^^^
