2022 wbb notes
We've got one for mbb, so ...

... At one of the recent Summer Circuit events, Lisa Carlsen said the Huskies are jumping right in (her words) with the season opener @ Notre Dame on 11/7 followed by a home game vs. DePaul on 11/12.

No mention in either of the 2 SC videos of the in-state Compass Challenge (SIUc,WIU, EIU, NIU) which has now been held once at each of the participating schools. Wonder if it's run its course and might be restrictive of o-o-c scheduling. Haven't seen it draw much of a crowd, though it was a good idea pitting in-state schools from four conferences.
... Wait and see?

Carlsen listed Janae Poisson, A'Jah Davis and a returning Chelby Koker (from injury) as the three players the team/recruiting is built around, including four transfers. Also, Paulina Castro is now Director of Operations (Ally Lehman is no longer listed on staff, so I assume she completed her m-degree work ... ?).

As far as wbb transfers, the Toledo website has a bunch of people who took it on themselves to track the entire conference. Thread is called MAC WBB Transfer Portal:2022 (they had to be good for something over there).

This was put together from the Toledo thread, official NIU website and several other team websites. Please add if you find anything else ...

Transfers In:
-- Emma Carter, GR, Franklin Pierce (DII), 5-11 f. Last season averaged career-high 17.6 ppg, shot 42.4% overall, 39.3% from three, 91.7% freethrow.
-- Kortney Drake, SO, 5-9 g, Kirkwood CC. Ave 12.4 ppg and 48.4% from three.
-- Tati Hodges-Johnson, SO, 5-7 g, Kirkwood CC. Ave 8.4 points, 4.7 rebounds, 2.7 assists; shot 43.9%, 30% from three.
-- Tara Stauffacherr, JR, 5-11 f, Wisconsin. Ave 2.0 ppg, 1,7 rebounds,. (Note: Give her a chance...Wisconsin was 8-21 last season, and was 1-11 before beating IllSt. The 1W was over St. Thomas, and they even lost to NJIT).

Also added:
-- Brooke Blumenfeld (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North), 6-0 f.

Carlsen may have mentioned adding six, but I didn't catch the other name if she did.

Transfer Out:
-- Mikayla Brandon, GR, > Denver

Glad we can be of some use over there, keeping track of your team for you and all :).

It's true that you don't know how the young lady from Wisconsin is going to perform - I mean look how Noveroske did for UT after not getting any chances in 2 years at Indiana. But you undersell how truly bad Wisconsin was last year (and the year before). Their loss to Chicago State has to be in contention for the worst loss by a B10 team in any sport ever. Chicago State came into that game on a 27 game losing streak. In the 5 previous seasons, Chicago St amassed an incredible record of 4-127, for a winning percentage of 0.031, And then they go on the road and beat a BIG10 team. Yikes.

The bigger question will be how the JUCO and DII players adjust to the DI game. There have been some great players who came into the MAC from those levels, but also some who barely ever saw the floor.

PVK---as always, thanks for the scoop. Very, very, very interesting that Chelby was mentioned as one that is going to be built around. Am I reading too much into this that she has the possibility of being ready for the season? That would be amazing.

I am certainly rooting for her and will give her a lot of slack. Unfortunately, we are way too familiar with that sort of injury and, although pretty good, Courtney Woods was never really the same and it took two major injuries and a couple years for Janae to fully recover.

Thanks again.

I can' t remember if this story was posted before, apologies if it was. It's about Bulls forward Patrick Williams and the Bulls recognizing recruit Brooke Blumfeld
on her perseverance overcoming two ACL injuries.

That's pretty awesome for any athlete. Hopefully she can stay healthy at NIU, she's got the toughness that's for sure.

Women's bball added another recruit, Maddy Fay, who had offers from Evansville, Murray State, and Kent State.

Class of 2023? 6-2 C from Fremd High School in Palatine. Prepgirlshoops.com had some good stuff to say about her but unfortunately I got stuck by a paywall so couldn't grab it. (If I paid for every paywall on every site ... ).

(Great pickup, epasnoopy)
