RE: Big 12 in 2023 agreement reached
Our years of wondering through the desert of CUSA, BE, AAC has ended. We have looked over the hills and see the promised land and hope it is not a mirage!

RE: Big 12 in 2023 agreement reached
The Big East (had Pitt and the basketball schools not blown it up)was actually the best institutional fit for UC. And more consistent with where our university has its alumni and where it recruits its out-of-state students. We do not have many alumni in Iowa, Kansas and Oklahoma. If the AAC had not invited Tulsa, Tulane and ECU, it might have achieved more national relevance, but I agree the AAC was a minimally acceptable landing spot while we waited for the P5 call-up. Kudos to Luke Fickell and John Cunningham for their indispensable roles in making this day happen. Now let’s compete to be the best of our new conference. Go Bearcats!

Reminder that this site has a BXII forum. There has been some activity since last fall but I think it will continue to grow now that the entry date has been announced.

That seems a better deal than the following UGonn deal:

According to sources, UConn’s exit fee will be payable in two lump sums this year and next, and incremental payments of roughly $1 million annually for the next six years. According to UConn, the debt must be paid in full by the end of fiscal year 2026.

So UGonn paid:

YEAR 1 $5.5
YEAR 2 $5.5
YEAR 3-8 $1 EACH YEAR.

No matter the schedule it is better than UGonn, especially in light of the huge inflation that has happened over the last 15 months!

An interest free loan for 14 years.

UC won't even feel it.

On to the B12 post haste.

$18M per year is only like $1.28M over the course of 14 years or basically a rounding error in a $60M+ athletic budget.

Means the entire AAC gets to spread around only 3.8 million annually to all the mouths to feed and the conference office.

So much for their lotto payday some AAC fans demanded.

Kind of a crazy stat, but when we leave the American it will have been our 3rd longest run in a conference in our ~140 year history.

1. OAC 1910-1925 - 15 years
2. MVC 1957-1969 - 12 years
3. American 2012-2023 - 11 years
4. BAC 1926-1935 - 9 years
5. C-USA 1996-2004 - 8 years
6. Big East 2005-2012 - 7 years
7. MAC 1947-1952 - 5 years
8. Big-12 2023-TBD - 0 years

Independent - for 4 different stretches - ~62 years

It was still the Big East until 2014. The 2012 Big East still had Everyone but WVU and the 2013 Big East still had Rutgers, Louisville and Syracuse.
