Rich Harvest Farms, LIV, MAC and NIU
Just saw Rich Harvest is hosting a LIV event.

I'm not going to go in depth about the whole polarizing topic of the LIV Tour. There is plenty of info out there for people to come to their own conclusions. Albeit if you just read the Rich Harvest and other pages praising it as well as their own contributions to the good of society you may think angels are behind it.

I do wonder if NIU, MAC have any thought's about cutting ties with them especially with all their talk of equality, human rights. I doubt it as they too would site RH contributions to mankind.

NIU current administration does not seem bright or pointed in the right direction, but hoping they're not so obtuse as to cut ties with a wealthy alumni who by all counts seems like a wonderful human being and generous donor. I don't like LIV like many because its Saudi product and likely architected PR machine. I did though talk to a PGA/Korn Ferry player ironically yesterday on the subject, and he said most players don't dig LIV for the Saudi reasons, but also mentioned that a number of Saudi/middle east businesses throw sponsor money at the PGA currently anyway, so the players may as well chase the better pay check. Also there seems to be a lot of angst in the PGA about how much $ it takes in, and how much it shares with the players, especially those not on the top $ list.

RE: Rich Harvest Farms, LIV, MAC and NIU
If hosting an LIV Tour event inhibits Rich Harvest from hosting NCAA, PGA, or LPGA events in the future this is terribly shortsighted. Besides that, to me, it's shameful on it's own. Don't know what Jerry rich was thinking, and I wonder how the NIU men's and women's teams view it.

RE: Rich Harvest Farms, LIV, MAC and NIU
IMO, some people are letting the "controversy" surrounding a PRO event interfere with their thinking vis-a-vis "AMATEUR" golf in the NCAA. Like the LPGA and PGA, the LIV Tour and NCAA have zilch to do with each other.

NIU alumnus Jerry Rich has been and is a terrific supporter of NIU and NIU golf and has been very generous not only with $$ but giving Huskies golf opportunities it would not otherwise have had (e.g., "working" the 2017 NCAA national tournaments, tho not qualifying, just for the experience).

Again, IMO, Jerry Rich is a great supporter of kids' golf, in fact, any kind of legitimate golf, and this is just one more event at RHF, which has over the years hosted a lot of big events.

It's Jerry Rich's course, their tour and his decision to take them.

If you want to weigh his positives and contributions vs. HIS decision, that is your call and one to be made by powers that be. Honestly, I don't think golf is big enough in the spotlight to bring attention to this or I think more than a few would make waves. As they say, "one awe shi$ erases 1000 attaboys.

And I for one had no idea they were even playing in US. I'm pretty sure even many casual golf fans like myself had no idea.

I find it odd that if you asked them, those leaving would be pretty conservative in values see this as a capitalistic, personal decision of wealth over what PGA does. Other than Phil. A lot of these guys aren't liked, at minimum, polarizing especially from US, haven't won a lot and the euros are past their prime. 50m though for Ian Poulter, how do you pass it up?

On the flip side, it's pretty ironic that the Saudi "special fund" or whatever through in $400,000,000 to start. I can only imagine the outcry if the USA or any euro government wrote a check for a sport like that to pay players, not even from this country to boot, directly. 03-melodramatic

How quickly would public sentiment change if the Saudi's started a basketball league and started out by giving Stef Curry 500M to join up for 5 years and then followed it up with a bunch of other signings of slightly older guys who would love to get a huge payday?

At this point, there's nothing stopping the Saudi's from doing it with other sports. They're throwing money at a PR issue and are buying international ambassadors.

I watched a little of the LIV 1st round coverage yesterday and, the least engaging aspect was the actual golf (btw, I watch most tournaments year round). The announcers were over the top with their gushing about the historic moment and how they were changing the sports landscape forever. They went on and on about the excitement at and around the event and how it was sold out.

Well...they gave away tickets for free and there were better attended PGA events during the early days of the pandemic.

It's hard to get excited about an event where 70% of the guys, literally no one has heard of and they're still at the top of the leaderboard while the big names are all shooting par or worse.

Btw, their website didn't even have the leaderboard anywhere on it. That tells you a lot.

Big Red your response was exactly what I was missing. What is the angle for this toruurnament? Why it is PR. Not caring about the score does say alot. Then the comments about the announcers and what they are "selling". Ug. Everything is being sold to us in 1 fashion or another.

This is 1 giant infomercial.

RE: Rich Harvest Farms, LIV, MAC and NIU
I know it's been mentioned, but the main thrust for LIV is to also to promote golf courses and vacation spots in Saudi Arabia and to make the Saudi Royal Family look more favorable in public opinion. I saw somewhere on TV that they built over a hundred golf courses recently.

It's going to be interesting to see what the religious leaders view on this( And I am not at all suggesting terrorism or Islamic fundelmentalism). I know in Islam, Saudi Arabia is sacred and for it to be turned into a tourist destination may not be looked upon as favorable.
It could result in an ouster of the Saudi Royal Family from power. Just a speculation.

Everyone buys stuff from China. We get oil from Saudi Arabia. The NBA makes a lot of money from China. This is Hypocritical.

Very true.

I could chose to not have a cell phone and a computer and to not put gas in my car.

It's basically the same thing.

That might be a good excuse.i can't afford a cell phone, computer ant be able to put gas in my non-existent car
Instead of saying i can't afford those items, I'm going to say I chose not to buy them.

Unfortunately oil is fungible and I can’t choose where the gas in my car comes from.

The Saudis are obscenely rich and I don’t see them getting deposed anytime soon. They survived the Arab Spring and are a Sunni country, unlike Shia Iran that could be governed by an Ayatollah.

I get why these PGA golfers are jumping at doubling their money but don’t give me this “doing it for my family” BS. Your kids will be just fine whether you clear 50 or 100 mil. You want more yachts. Just be honest.

Lebron James makes a lot of money from China relationships. He is nice a billionaire. Also, Apple and other high tech companies chose to do business in China because their profit margins are much better. They don't care that intellectual property is being stolen. Chasing all mighty dollar

As a mod who doesn't care anymore, I'd say it actually is OK here. Rich Harvest has the NIU and MAC connection.

Mind you, with the people here it will go off the rails right quick and then a mod who does care will probably have to deal with it, but the spirit of the thread I'd say is legit.
