Memphis Tiger Nation Is Tired
I think tiger nation is frustrated, hurt, confused and has become apathetic with everything that continues to go against a sports program that we all love so much. Always getting slapped with probations and NCAA investigations. Always getting left out of realignment. A decade plus of basketball teams never living up to expectations. Always being picked on and looked down on by other fan bases. Even though I like the looks of the new stadium, I sense that most of tiger nation is disappointed that we are not getting a new stadium.
The traffic on this message board has diminished greatly from when I first began reading stuff on here nearly 20 years ago. I didn’t start posting for a while, but the enthusiasm and overall positive outlook of the early 2000’s has been replaced with mostly negativity, apathy and almost every discussion turning into petulant back-and-forth.
I would like to hear other peoples thoughts on this, but I just get a sense that the majority of tiger fans are at the “2 tears in a bucket mother fudge it” phase of their fandom.

Some on here will likely call me a "sunshine pumper", but I think the best days are still ahead. How depressing to always feel like we've peaked for my lifetime.

I agree with you AND BIGDTiger.
I think we are a burnt out lot of fans, but I also think our best days are ahead of us.

It's the old adage, doing the same things over & over again & expecting different results.

I can't think of a better time to be a Tiger fan and I've been going to BB and FB games since 1989. While nothing is perfect and we still have lots of room to grow, we are in good hands.
Go out on campus and look at how beautiful our campus is compared to the early 80's. 8 straight FB bowl games.... come on man, that's never happened. And, Penny is turning our BB program around.
This board is full of a bunch of negative nellies, which is probably why traffic has dropped. It's really pathetic. Call me a sunshine pumper, but I sure like where we're headed vs Shirley and RC days.
We may not make the next B12 cut and maybe we will. I think we are positioned with the LB reno to make the jump. Time will tell.

It is easy to be discouraged after being left out each time there is a discussion about expansion, and then seeing 3 of your conference mates make that jump.
But things are better than they have been in regard to the programs. Hard to believe we have been in the FedEx Forum for almost 20 years. The Liberty Bowl is going to be drastically remodeled.
The AAC is never going to be the same, but we need to take care of business and own it.
I have been posting on this board of whatever it was called for 22 years now. There have certainly been worse times.
Go Tigers.

As far as conference realignment goes, there will always be players that want to play football at a high level. They can't all play for Bama or UGA or OSU or even say a Wake Forest. They want to play and be seen so they can get to the next level. No matter where we land, we need to strive to be one of the top programs in whatever conference or level of play.

I thnk tired is a pretty apt description. It's exhausting seeing peer schools pass us by. Been years since I posted a Twitter link, so forgot how to make it appear to everyone. But Cincy, Houston and UCF gone next summer.

If being in the same conference as Charlotte, Florida Atlantic, North Texas, Rice, UAB and UTSA - which Memphis will be in just 13 months - doesn't make one tired, I don't know what will.

RE: Memphis Tiger Nation Is Tired
We are still in the glory years of Memphis Tiger football and we should all be enthusiastic and excited. This year we have a great team and I expect us to have a great season, continue building and be back in the conference championship game where we belong. Our university leadership recently announced it is committed to supporting the football program for the long run, and willing to do whatever it takes, unlike previous decades of poor decision making that caused many around the country to doubt our school's commitment to football. Our football team will dominate the conference every single year until the next conference realignment cannot ignore us any further, and all doubts have been erased. We will keep climbing. We are ALL IN.

We will attend every home football game next year, every home basketball game, likely a volleyball and soccer game or two, and baseball next spring
But I understand the sentiment

Is anything like Calipari used to describe as "Pooping Ice Cream"?
Or Unicorns pooping ice cream?

RE: Memphis Tiger Nation Is Tired
I'm old, tired and apathetic. I have been a huge Tiger fan for ever (the late 60s) and I'm on the verge of spending my time and money elsewhere. We have consistently not done what is necessary to move up the college sports ladder, our failure has left us playing home and home basketball games with Florida Atlantic, jeez. On top of that, while we were failing to improve our lot in life, the big boys have destroyed any type of fairness there ever was in college sports.
I don't know which is worse, to be in a league with UAB and UTSA, or being at the bottom of a P5 league with no asperations of winning, just hoping to win some OOC games and upset one of the good teams to make a bowl maybe, but probably not. Both scenarios suck.

BigD,
I think three things have reduced the board traffic above having a frustrated fan base.
1. The negative, attack, snarky posters the ruin threads and derail threads,
2. Personal battles played out day after day in thread after thread, and
3. The lack of knowledgeable posters with inside information.
At least those 3 things have caused my extended breaks.

The Big 12 decision killed the program. It might take awhile to actually die, but the blow was fatal. Unless a miracle happens in the next 24 months or so, it’ll be time to turn out the lights.
