Grace Forbes with a superb runner-up finish last night in the 10K (finishing second to the pre-race favorite - Mercy Chelangat of Alabama). It was the first runner-up finish by an Owl at the NCAA track and field championships since 2001.

We saved the best for last for the 2021-22 Rice athletic year.

It is a shame that the messsage boards were down last night. I wanted to see the reaction to the race.

I was in my living room with my wife watching live and was literally waving her around the track for multiple laps like a 3rd base coach. So proud of her. What an awesome race.

Saw it live last night. As a track newbie, I was confused by the 60 meter lead by the "rabbit"; also worried by the fact that Forbes was "forced" to lead the peloton for practically all the race. What a performance by Forbes!! That English "R" looked so good ....huge congrats!!

Simpson-Sullivan achieved her second All-American performance of the year by placing 14th in the hammer throw.

Gunnarsdottir placed 11th in the shot put and also got All-American.

Great job by Grace. Be great if she can beat 32:00 next year? Wonder if more strength training would improve her kick? Is she competing in the 5000 m in the future?

I hope that next year, the schedule actually allows Grace to run an outdoor race at Rice.

RE: 2022 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships
They list her as a sophomore, but is 2023 her final year running track for Rice? I realize she's probably going to be in medical school after next year?

I'm assuming Chelangat has another year. She turns 25 next month.

It would also be nice if they could run the 10K after the 5K, but I'm guessing that will never happen at the NCAA meet. The 5K between Chelangat and Tuohy today could be quite interesting (and I'm assuming other runners might be involved too).

Rice team finished a respectable 30th at women's NCAA, continuing our recent history of relative women sports success vs Owl men.

Apparently, Leroy Burrell is leaving Houston (his alma mater) for Auburn.

relative to Conf USA.

I feel for the Burrell family - they're a super nice family who suffered just a horrible tragedy last August. I wish him and his family nothing but the best with his new job.
