When does panic and protest kick in?
What’s your magic number on gas prices where you’d be seriously concerned about your ability control your finances.

Everyone’s got a number….what’s yours ?

$140 to fill up the truck today. It's great paying 30% more for groceries as well! I honestly don't know how people in low income situations are getting by.

Don’t have a number. Biden has released a lot of the government reserve. He has also talked the Saudi’s into start producing more. I can’t think of anything else he could do. Do you have any suggestions to offer?

Hasn't really affected us yet. My wife and I both work just a few minutes from home. Daycare, grocery, restaurants are all close by.

Maybe this will be an eye-opener situation about our over-reliance on fossil fuels, and complete lack of public transit and walkable cities in this country.

Hahah, you gotta be kidding me. Take some personal responsibility for your terrible transportation decisions.

Nothing more pitiful than a bunch of GQPers driving oversized murder machines crying about how unfair gas prices are.

This is exactly what I just told my Dad. In a sane world, America would make serious investments in public transit and alternative transportation options in case another global fuel price spike happens, which is guaranteed.

Instead, we got pols more concerned with performative politics and bowing to wasteful drivers, promising to throw rebates and tax breaks at them. These are short term band-aids for long-term problems.

And before anyone one starts crying about politics, car brain is unfortunately bipartisan.

He's got a point though. A certain part of the political spectrum is weirdly obsessed with gas prices. It's a strange thing to fixate on, because it's not really an indicator of anything other than the basic tenets of supply and demand.

Supply and demand is a pretty simple concept. Increasing supply will lower the price. It’s not rocket science.

For the record I’m not complaining about gas prices. I can afford it. I’ll always drive a truck even if gas prices go to 10 dollars. I pull a camper, fishing boat, and build decks in my spare time. It’s essential.

It’s not strange for people to fixate on gas prices as it impacts their budget and is 1 of the top expenses for many. Not everyone wants to live in a mass transit utopia like NYC where it costs 3 grand per month to rent a closet. Or the wonderful mass transit in Chicago where you’re likely to be mugged at least once a year.

Yes. Being outraged by gas prices & taking pride in driving the biggest gas guzzling vehicles possible is a very odd combination of logic.

I think there is a good chance people putting stickers on gas pumps are in the same demographic as people driving trucks like this. What's your guess?

RE: When does panic and protest kick in?
This is honestly an amazing sequence of posts. We have Doo starting a thread destined to become political complaining about it becoming political. We then have Charm City Bronco, ostensibly from the left, asserting that its just "GOPers driving oversized murder machines" complaining about this.

Truth is, this unfortunately affects everyone because our politicians (and to be fair, voters) didn't have enough foresight to bring about efficient public transport in our cities before this looming crisis.

In CCB's defense he later acknowledges this. But IMO it's a problem that liberals' first kneejerk reaction is to make fun of the redhats for having big gas guzzling trucks. The truth is that poor people are most affected by these price increases and they have been failed by both Democratic and Republican governments failing to invest in public transportation and other alternatives. Gas costing more isn't inherently a bad thing. The problem is when people have no other choice but to pay the price.

You probably hate that guy who owns that truck huh?

Imagine living life hating someone for the type of vehicle they drive.
