This honestly tells almost all of the story. No money, no TV market, no location administrators are excited about visiting, no meaningful recruiting territory, and meh-to-terrible football and basketball.

The MWC already has too many charity cases. The league doesn't want to add more unless they have choice.

El Paso might not be Las Vegas or Orlando but it’s a much better place to visit than lots of places so I’m confused by the “no location administrators are excited about visiting” part. You’re absolutely 100% correct on the rest.

Ironically, the two sports El Paso’s 25 high schools offer tons of quality recruits (baseball and men’s soccer) are two sports UTEP doesn’t sponsor.
