There are those jobs for sure because employers will not pay a living wage but there are literally thousands of jobs for example in the airline industry, railroad industry and trucking. Those unfilled jobs is one of the reasons our supply chain isn't working. And here's an idea: all of these billions of dollars in federal infrastructure money and the money the states are spending from federal pandemic dollars are now being bid out or started spending in even in those states where Congress representative did not vote for either measure. A great example in Michigan is spending $250 million to modernize state parks. That will create jobs as well. Plus if we can start onshoring essential items like chip manufacturing that will create jobs as well and they don't pay hamburger flipping wages.

Those jobs take special training they can't be filled with just anyone off the street.

I'm going to stray from this intense economic discussion and make a point on this thread that is titled "Soccer/lacrosse field".
EMU hauled that centerfield hill dirt over to Eagle Crest and graded and contoured it on the right side of the 10-hole tee, a true enhancement to the course once it is complete. Nice move by the University!

I know that hole. Are they taking away the temptation to cut the corner on that dogleg?

Yea, wait a second, I need that par or birdie to make up for the 50 I shot on the front nine, What I am going to do without being able to hit a 30 yard slice on the par 5 10th.

I always thought that the east side stands should be enclosed and as a training area for baseball.

Relax guys. Nickle you can still cheat the dogleg as before. Fan, a 30-yard slice off the tee will now end up on the newly constructed huge bank between the cart path and the hotel. It is more for aesthetics as it is actually out of bounds and due to its extreme slope, not going to get mowed very often. Kiss your ball goodbye if you hit it in there, re-tee and take stroke and distance.

Turf, In the long run turf is cheaper also less injuries. Still need to build the stands and teams shelters.

Field turf is now the dominant playing surface of northern Universities not in the P5. Most High Schools with any financial assets have it as well. No mowing, fertilizing, disease control or getting it torn up playing when wet.

The opening home game was moved to the legacy complex do to field not being completed in time for Thursday game. What's been done looks good but there's still a lot of work to do. I was told that the turf waited 3 weeks for a truck driver to get it here from Virginia.

On a positive note! Both volleyball and soccer won last weekend! Volleyball has been disappointing but won their away game against Miami. Soccer is young but has shown signs of getting better beat a good WMU on the road. Also they have 2 very good recruits coming in next year on a team that has soon real competitiveness.

How long has volleyball been disappointing? I remember how the previous long time coach got removed by Heather but her replacement is even worse. Glad to see soccer is on an upward trend. That coach has been here forever.

Ah, a kernel of truth: Remove a coach and the new coach will be better, worse or about the same.
Two of the three options aren't appealing.
Talking about EMU VB and Nebraska FB as examples.

Heather hired a good volleyball coach. It took a few years but they won the MAC and made the NCAAs. She then left to be an assistant at MSU.
Soccer needs new leadership.
