- Drove by South Campus today. Upgrades to baseball and softball fields look nice.
- Any over update to the “Initial Phase” of this campaign? The 2 biggest pieces 1) Student-Athlete Success Center and 2) State of art Dorms were both support construction this Summer. All the old buildings are still in place. Is there an update on when demo will begin and are both projects on track?? Have heard nothing, since March ‘22

I'm also very interested in the latest updates on the Memphis Rising project. I haven't seen anything new. It seems like the Student Athlete Success Center and the Athlete village apartments/dorms were supposed to be started on this coming summer? I can't really remember the timeline to be honest. But that March 2022 update is really the last thing I've seen as well. Has anyone seen anything more recent?

Agreed. Very eager to see something moving. All those old dilapidated storage sheds are real eye sores.

This is part of my issue with the current admin. You contribute, then hear nothing. No specifics, no schedules, no updates.

I have heard RFPs are out for baseball stadium expansion/improvements and firms are submitting bids but that's all I have heard and I don't even remember where I heard that to know if the source is reliable haha. I haven't heard anything else on the Memphis Rising plans but would very much love an update!

Veatch created a Twitter profile in 2011 and as of right now hasn't yet tweeted anything.

‘The research modernization is just one component of this. U of M is also looking to gain more research funding, and as chief government relations and policy officer Katie VanLandingham noted during the meeting, Governor Bill Lee has proposed that the state give U of M $50 million for a research endowment to maintain R1 status — which U of M would then match dollar-for-dollar, making it a $100 million fund.

And U of M has other capital projects in the works that could support U of M’s R1 efforts, too. During the meeting, chief university planning officer Tony Poteet laid out the school’s five-year capital outlay plan, which, besides the research modernization, includes these facilities:

A $68.41 million interdisciplinary science facility on the main campus, expected to be funded in the 2024-25 year
A $54 million research park — new research facilities west of the main campus — expected to be funded in the 2025-26 year
An $83 million building replacement for Mitchell Hall and Clement Hall, expected to be funded in the 2026-27 year
A $28 million research renovation and physical plant relocation — the school will relocate its plant and use the current facility for research — expected to be funded in 2027-28 year

U of M has also already received funding from the State for two other projects. It’s scored $25 million in state funding for the renovation of the Fogelman College of Business and Economics, which will be paired with $5 million in matching funds from U of M — putting the cost at $30 million.

And it’s received $20 million in state funding for the renovation of Mynders Hall — U of M’s first residence hall, built in 1912 — which, like the Fogelman project, will be paired with $5 million in matching funds from the university. This puts the renovation’s cost at $25 million.”

Ha, Tony is a friend of mine and owns property adjacent to our farm. I knew he worked at the U of M but didn't know what his position is. Odd seeing his name...

Hopefully they take into account camera placement when they are booking these upgrades. Talked with someone who is assisting with airing UofM games not too long ago, and they were very frustrated with the school's lack of attention to detail on this. He has been told that P5 programs are also paying attention to the "lesser" programs and how prepared those facilities are as well.

He's been there forever. I'm pretty sure he was there when I was working at the school almost 20 years ago.

From the Liberty stadium renovations announcement Q&A:

"Because this is such a critical time to position Memphis Athletics for success in the rapidly evolving intercollegiate landscape, we will be moving forward with aggressive fundraising timelines for the Student-Athlete Success Center and housing projects, alongside this renovation to Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium. Success will require record levels of philanthropic support from the Tiger faithful."

It's in the Q&A at the very bottom. There's a Question asking how this affects the projects on the Park Avenue campus. What I quoted above is all it says.

Gotcha. I read it. Hopefully, the University backs it up with some serious effort and publicity!!
