Adding some context to the record. Taken from Wikipedia.

2018: 9-33 overall, 6-15 conference

2019: 32-24 overall, 17-6 conference; went 1-2 against Memphis, beat #8 LSU, won division, won conference, made NCAA Regional

2020: 6-10 overall, 3-0 conference; season shutdown due to covid

Resigned 11/30/2020 to take job with MLB.

That was a nice turnaround from his first to second season. Maybe that position with the MLB will help him with recruiting.

Not the second coming of Jesus but proof that context matters.

Was expecting either a SEC asst or another G5 Head Coach looking for a move up …. Hope I’m wrong, but this hire doesn’t seem to make sense for our program

The last AD that hired a men’s football or basketball coach was named Billy Spook Murphy, but the rest is correct

Definitely the move of a school about to get an invitation to the B12.

Just shut it all down and put us out of our misery.

Adding MORE context.

Only 2 SWAC teams had winning records in 2019.

Southern and Jackson St.

Only 2 had winning record in 2020.

This season AAC was 5th in conference power ratings, SWAC was 29th.

Jackson St only real baseball school in SWAC.

In 2021 only two players in Memphis were listed in top 50 recruits in Tennessee.

Both inner-city kids and both went elsewhere for college.

Another key detail.

Except for Southern he has never stayed at same job for more than 2 years.

?

He was at Missouri longer than that.

Also you should look at Southern's program history if you think Jackson St is the only real program in that conference.

And considering he's from St. Louis and the rest of his background, he may not be restricted to recruiting in the Memphis area.

I don't know how well he will do. All I can do is wait and see like everyone else.

For those interested I found a nice interview with him back when he was at Southern.

https://abca.org/magazine/2019-4-July_Au...ckson.aspx

He talks about how he evaluates players and some of his recruiting process. How he originally wanted to stay at Missouri with the hope of eventually becoming their coach and why he ended up leaving. He was at Missouri when they were still in the Big 12 and moved to the SEC.

Also when he took over at Southern he had to deal with this.

Quote:Kerrick Jackson knew what he was getting into when he applied for and accepted the job as Southern University’s baseball coach.

He was not only taking over a program shackled by NCAA restrictions stemming from APR compliance issues, he was also stepping into the long shadow cast by former coach Roger Cador, who won 917 games and 14 Southwestern Athletic Conference titles and made 11 NCAA tournament appearances in 33 seasons.

Southern University faces 5 years of probation, other penalties from NCAA

Quote:· A reduction of baseball scholarships by 2.3 during the 2016-17 academic year, by 2.3 during the 2017-18 academic year and by 2.3 during the 2018-19 academic year.

Just 1 year on the job so not a lot of bridges built.

But he's likely to have better luck connecting with some of the locals.

Not much we can do with the former county schools since they have long been SEC feeder schools.

But the top two recruits coming out of Shelby County we're inner city kids and both left town to play at non SEC schools.

Cumberland college and Kansas St should not have been able to come in and steal talent.
