When you go from 2018: 9-33 overall, 6-15 conference to 2019: 32-24 overall, 17-6 conference; beat #8 LSU, won division, won conference, made NCAA Regional...etc, you are doing something right. This is the same type of scenario that Fuente went through when he came here and also what Calipari went through. Our program needs to be "turned around" and this coach seems to be able to get the job done based on past performance. In the job interview, his ability to turn around a college baseball program would have taken up a large part of the job interview.

Did you happen to look at Rock's first three years?

2007 36-27 NCAA

In 5th rated baseball ball conference.

Tigers have constantly been playing in a top 5 baseball conference.

Jackson comes from historically the worst conference in baseball.

Jackson is dramatically stepping up in competition.

What--should he lie ?----A lot of people have felt this way the last couple years about their alma mater--------whats more special is the happyclappers and coach worshippers that bury their heads in the sand and think/believe the university does no wrong ----------this hire is at best a head scratcher

Since leaving the independent ranks, Memphis has always been in a conference that contends for best of the rest. It isn't where we want, but it isn't exactly the SWAC.

Which in itself seems like a thinly veiled social commentary. Dude probably is all into replacement theory too. Just a coincidence to be sure.

Maybe as a coach but not a legendary AD

Oh he was a legend as an AD. Just not a good legend. He was an afteraction hire. Always got to coach against Ole Ms because he promised not to recruit Black players.

I agree.

Saying he comes from the from the worst conference in baseball and stepping up in competition conveniently ignore his time at a P5 school and time spent with the pros which was longer than at Southern. It makes it sound like his only experience is in the SWAC. He should have plenty of understanding of what would be considered higher talent.

2018: 9-33 overall, 6-15 conference

2019: 32-24 overall, 17-6 conference; went 1-2 against Memphis, beat #8 LSU, won division, won conference, made NCAA Regional

2020: 6-10 overall, 3-0 conference; season shutdown due to covid

Resigned 11/30/2020 to take job with MLB.

That was a nice turnaround from his first to second season. Maybe that position with the MLB will help him with recruiting.

Adding MORE context.

Only 2 SWAC teams had winning records in 2019.

Southern and Jackson St.

Only 2 had winning record in 2020.

This season AAC was 5th in conference power ratings, SWAC was 29th.

Jackson St only real baseball school in SWAC.

In 2021 only two players in Memphis were listed in top 50 recruits in Tennessee.

Both inner-city kids and both went elsewhere for college.

Another key detail.

Except for Southern he has never stayed at same job for more than 2 years.
07-coffee307-coffee3 That may end up being a good thing for us.

Let's give the man a chance. It's not like we're starting from a position of strength anyhow. At this point just some hope for the program would be a good start.
