90 percent of CUSA's mistakes can be traced back to actions by their own schools. If you chase markets in realignment, and spend considerable amount of time targeting high level TV deals without considering who you are inviting, these things happen.

Marshall and Southern Miss are a prime example. At one point AState fans actually wanted our school to be more like Marshall and Southern Miss, None of us ever considered we'd get a chance to be league mates. And then slowly, every advantage you guys had vanished because CUSA kept pairing you with schools you had no relationship with and tried to force a rivalry out of you, all for the sake of a few TV dollars.

Money starts to dry up, teams start to struggle, and suddenly you guys were faced with a choice of playing with Liberty, rejoining the MAC, or joining the Sun Belt. A decision few would have ever considered 10 years ago.

How did we pick exactly the worst schools from the Sunbelt? It's like you guys held them up a little higher so we'd pick them. Jedi mind trick or some ****. But we literally ended up with the worst, self-serving garbage teams in CUSA.

Not many remember this, but each of the schools added to CUSA had measures of success early in the Sun Belt. Its just that recent results showed a downhill trend, that everyone but the schools themselves saw coming.

North Texas won 4 straight Sun Belt Titles from 2001 to 2004, and then didn't sniff a bowl the next 7 years.

FAU had won the league in 09 and had finished 2nd to Troy multiple times but had begun to struggle by 2011.

FIU was being driven to some success right before they moved thanks to some dude named TY Hilton, who was a year away from the NFL Draft at that point.

MTSU had zero league titles but numerous top 4 finishes when they left, but results were becoming less consistent.

The best add Ironically was WKU, who got passed over at first primarily because they struggled to win a dang game for two years before beginning to climb. Making a Bowl in 2012 and making a title run in 2013.

You know the big market schools will also never be satisfied. They will always have one eye open looking at the illusion of green grass somewhere else. And think they deserve it because of their city. The biggest followed schools in the nation are in podunk towns or at least not the main cities or capitals. There are exceptions of course, like Ohio State. Teams like USM and Marshall just want good competition and like-minded conference mates. That's why both were so unhappy in CUSA once the true, named teams left. Everyone else came in with something to prove to get up and out.

We would have been happy in the AAC with old conference mates, but not in the direction they took. I think they should have taken USM, Marshall, LaTech, and UAB. ODU would have made a good 5th team if needed. But that was as close as they could get to maintaining some sort of brand recognition. They lost all branding with their current choices. I'm happy, now, it sorted the way it did. Very happy. But there was a serious wtf moment there when they announced. I knew the SBC was the best option and they moved fast, but feeling stuck in that shithole for even a moment was a fankiller. Like I would have given up and found someone else to root for kind of fankiller. And no, it would not have been WVU. Never them.

I agree 100%. I was ready to do something drastic even before the AACk announced their market schools. I was ready to go back to our roots (Muck the FAC, not those roots). The roots where we found our win streak and with schools that loved football and went to games. Hell we're in the grown up SoCon now. Right where we should be. And yes, I'm so tired of the big city schools that think they are the ****. They can't even get 10k in their stadiums but dayum they are the **** aren't they LOL 05-nono

I was officially on the Sunbelt train when the AAC came out trying to get Air Force and CSU. That showed me that they were going west. That's really when the Marshall/ODU/USM stuff started. Once the AAC picked their 6 (I knew they would pick a few of those teams, but 6?!?), I laughed and wanted nothing to do with a conference that was as TXcentric as C-USA. We are exactly where we need to be. This was best case scenario for Marshall. Now we need to go and win as many SBC titles as possible!

RE: CUSABBS Avoid Please
I spent way too much time in realignment having to explain to people that it was very clear the Sun Belt's 10 members had gotten together and agreed to stay put and that meant CUSA was the one getting poached, but I think some fans on the other side didn't want to believe it until it happened.

Of course, about 30 percent of those were people posting on their alt accounts so their main wouldn't be caught saying anything in case their school moved to the Sun Belt and they needed to support the move.

RE: CUSABBS Avoid Please
I desperately wanted to join the AAC when C-USA imploded in 2013-2014. Being left behind was a humiliating kick in the nuts. I totally get why there is so much salt with the remaining teams.

But once UCF, Houston, and Cincinnati announced they were leaving for the Big 12, I really did not see the appeal. I'd love to regularly play ECU, Memphis, and Navy but that's about it. SMU, Tulsa, USF, and Temple are all solid G5 brands but Marshall has zero in common with any of them and none are particularly drivable away games, so I don't see much potential for anything forming.

The money was definitely appealing but absolutely not worth the trade offs. We already experienced what it's like to have mismatched athletic budget playing opponents we have no history with from 2005-2012. Going back to that has zero appeal, not even considering they brought in 6 C-USA teams and newbies don't even get the same media deal. I want no part in any of that.

Cincinnati and Houston had a known name in the past from Basketball. Casual fans were able to say hey I've heard of them before. UCF built their brand and brought attention to themselves.

The AAC6 have no brand or known name history. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt that they can start winning, but more than likely the casual fan will still not know who they are.

AAC went hunting for the next UCF. I really don't think their will be another program rise the way UCF has over the last 20 years. They had the perfect combination of location, money, and great coaching hires. This will not end well for the AAC.
