I am just simply amazed that Richmond agreed to this. Just hope that they don't back out at the last moment citing "travel issues" !!

Well, you know, the widening of I-64 won't be completed by then...so,...

Assuming that it is a home-and-home arrangement, it makes more sense for Richmond to play in W'burg this year before our team jells and then get us in Richmond next year. Dare we hope that it becomes an annual game again?

I don’t think we should even schedule Richmond unless it’s home/home. Just like Mason or ODU. Anyone upset at UR, which I’m sure some would be, only have egos as bloated as their mid sections.

It is home and home. I think it was supposed to start either last year or the year before, but...Covid.

I don't mean to quibble, since it's a great schedule overall, but I have to say that the inclusion of Mid-Atlantic Christian seems a bit odd. I had never even heard of the United States Collegiate Athletic Association, and MACU apparently has 218 students.

I mean, OK, but I just don't get it.

RE: 22-23 Men's Basketball Schedule
Those of us, of a certain age, remember them better by their former name, Roanoke Bible College, in Division III.

As for the USCAA, they started as the National Little College Athletic Association (NLCAA), primarily to sponsor a national basketball tournament for small colleges and junior colleges. They changed their name to the National Small College Athletic Association and then to USCAA, in 2001. The Apprentice School (Newport News) and Mid-Atlantic Christian (also in Elizabeth City) are other regional schools in the USCAA.

It does seem a strange choice, especially with 4 games in a 9 day stretch to start the season, but scheduling is sometimes a strange undertaking.

I have zero inside info on this but looking at MACU's games last year it seems like they play at pretty high tempo. We may have scheduled the game to work out defensive kinks against that kind of an offense. I'm not crazy about playing a USCAA school after the season starts either but really I think the school should just treat it like a scrimmage and move on.

I wonder what we pay a school like them to come here. Power conference schools usually pay us around $100k, I believe. $10k maybe?

Goal is to play ODU home one year and Richmond the next year. We will play Richmond away next year and ODU home
