A familiar name enters the transfer portal……yet again.

Now looking for his fourth school……this is getting ridiculous.

Playing on the west coast made it convenient for me to catch a couple of his late night games. He was hurt for about a month last year and when he came back, he looked off. He was never going to be the guy Monty was hoping he'd be (some kind of a replacement of similar facsimile of German). But he was ALWAYS a standup guy and wore his heart on his sleeve.

I wish him the best.

Also, keep in mind, the only school where he was on scholarship was CSUN, so him moving around a lot was never an issue. Walk-on's have always been able to move about freely.

As I am sure you are aware BigRed, he didn’t need a scholarship at NIU……he attended free because his Dad was an NIU employee. And the same was true at SIU, so being non-scholarship was completely immaterial. CSUN was his first stop where he would even needed it.

Certainly, his situation is quite unique, with his Dad losing coaching jobs at both SIU and NIU. Four schools in four years just seems odd to me. Sounds like a good guy and I wish him well.

I am very aware of why he was a walk-on.

I'm just confused why a walk-on transferring schools multiple times is ridiculous. Per even the old rules, he's only transferred while on scholarship once.

Whether or not he is on scholarship makes absolutely no difference to my point. I just find four schools in four years highly unusual. I mean it is his decision, but, it seems a bit directionless to me. Just my opinion and maybe ridiculous was a poor word choice. I certainly hope it all works out to his benefit.

Some of these kids are delusional. They want to play pro so bad they can’t see or think straight.

A lot of these school bouncers and portal drifters need a trustworthy confidant to get in their ear and tell them what they don't want to hear: stay put, be happy playing where you are, and get your freaking degree because the NBA (and probably even Europe) is not in your future.

RE: Darius Beane
Forgot most kids playing overseas the novelty of being a pro wears off: too many contracts are not guaranteed and the pay is often $25,000-$30,000. However they do get to see different parts of the world and are playing ball every day and it beats going to the office. what was the draw of being a “professional basketball player“ is offset and reality sets in they go home and like the rest of us, get a regular job.
