Ryan needs to improve this year & I don’t think anyone would disagree. Attendance suffered last year & the Norvell/Fuente momentum has waned.

Silverfield said he could get it done, year #3 is the time.

Yeah, I agree that this 3rd year is make it or break it for him. His first year was a throw-away with the Covid shitshow and general unrest affecting things. The one thing that may be also hurting him is the yearly staff turnover he has had.

At some point, he has to get his ish together and produce - this may be the year he does. I hope so, if for nothing more than to shut the “Negative Nancies” up. 07-coffee3

Sorry, but I'm not going to pat a coach on the back who goes 6-6 with our schedule & apparently the highest rated recruiting classes, ever, the past two years. Time to win games and not get embarrassed by Temple, Tulsa, ECU, etc.

Please don't use the injury excuse, every team deals with injuries throughout the season, we are no different. Even if we have injuries, our stellar recruiting should yield better results to backfill those positions.

All signs point to a coaching problem and it's ok to admit that - now is not the time to put our head in the sand and act like he is the guy.

Maybe you should apply with your vast knowledge of the game.

Interesting, it sounds like you are also expecting a coaching change at season's end!

My comment in particular was not negative. It's an observation.

I believe with the magnitude of needing a successful season to show the B12 that we are NOT regressing, we need to pull the trigger FAST if we see things heading south.

Yep. And go back to the process that brought in Fuente and Norvell.

It's a rinky dink ranking system and for 2 years now, we've given it way too much bump.
And there's no way Fritz nor Nomatulu should be rated higher than CRS.
But the remaining 4 above him - hard to argue against them.
This is a big year for CRS.

I don’t get some of the secrecy about injuries and other stuff. It just seems kind of silly. He could maybe divulge some things here and there to help keep folks interested. Maybe I’m mistaken, but it doesn’t seem like he’s out and about trying to drum up support like some have done before. I don’t believe many casual fans could pick him out of a lineup. If it goes south, that won’t help him. A few losses with this schedule and we might return to really small crowds quite soon.

RE: Ryan Silverfield 7th Best Coach In AAC Poll
Last season's road record left a lot to be desired. At home the team played well but not very exciting. The team came out of the gate pretty well with 3 straight wins, 2 at home. This season the Tigers open with 3 straight road games! Survive that and there are 3 straight home games. 4 and 2 or better and we are in for an interesting season. 3 and 3 or worse and we are in for a long season. Go Tigers Go. CSR knows what he has to do. I believe he has the players to do it. Fortune favors the brave.

RE: Ryan Silverfield 7th Best Coach In AAC Poll
I’m generally a positive guy. I hope that Ryan Silverfield will get it done and be successful. He has a Freshman All-American QB returning for a sophomore season. He has hired new coordinators for both the O and the D. This year will allow us to judge his ability to pick a coaching staff and to shore up some of our obvious deficiencies from last year, such as a weak running game and a defense that left a lot to be desired at times.

I’m pulling for him to be successful. To me that means improving on last year’s 6-6 record. Personally, I would be OK at 8-4 in the regular season, and I would be overjoyed if he does better than that. I’m not sure how much slack he will get from the administration, but that’s what I’m looking for.

7th is about 3 spots too high. I don't think he's here after this season.

That would require a devastating season for the Tigers. I don't know about you but I am not hoping for that to happen.

RE: Ryan Silverfield 7th Best Coach In AAC Poll
I would say they'll be close to a 7-9 point underdogs against Mississippi State. Unfortunately, I don't see us winning that game. I'm curious to see how this team will play against Navy on the road. We'll probably 0-1, and they'll be 1-0. If we drop that game, going 0-2 at home is something our fans aren't used to, and won't be happy.

I'm looking for this team to come out the gates ready. I really thought this team sleepwalked through certain games (USF and ECU specifically). But I'm also curious to see how they're going to perform without JJ Russell on defense, Dylan Parham on the line, and not being able to have a receiver like Calvin Austin who was deep threat.

This team has to show signs of improvement, and no, going 8-4 but squeaking out wins doesn't mean it's improvement in my eyes. They have to play better in all positions, because we're going to lack playmakers and "threats" on offense.

They may lose the game against MS State, but if this is a blowout in the second quarter, then who knows what the season will look like. They have 6+ months to prepare for both Mississippi State and Navy, and both teams aren't hiding anything of what they're going to do offensively.

This is Silverfield’s year to show if he’s “the guy”. There is much to like about him, but he’s been a little too robotic, predictable, safe… whatever you want to call it… with game management the first 2 years. He’s done a commendable job recruiting but needs to step it up on the sidelines.

With the high-stakes game of realignment and the reason given for the stadium expansion vs OCS (speed), we don't have time to waste on on-field success.

Just in case, the Ath Dpt better have somebody in mind.

He needed to be a continuation of Norvell, not a “we’re changing the philosophy around here” type of coach. Unfortunately, he’s opted for change. It needs to pay off this season.

(05-23-2022 11:02 AM)Marc Mensa Wrote:  He gave away the UTSA by slowing the game down in the 2nd Q… who does that? And he almost did the same thing in Jonesboro against a bad ASU team. Losing at Temple was a really bad loss & losing at home to ECU, inexplicable. Why go for 2 at home and then run that easy to defend roll out pass to the short side of the field??

Ryan coached this team last year like we were a Big 10, grind it out kinda squad… “get the lead then start pounding it & running clock”, but thats not the team he was given.

He gets a new set of downs this year… hopefully he takes advantage.

03-hissyfit So THAT’S how we lost the Cotton Bowl 03-banghead I knew we were the better team 05-mafia
