An article like this has lower credibility when they can't get the names of the players right. Tariq Spikes? Dylan Grummon? C'mon man!

Haha, I noticed that too.

Also, no mention of perhaps our biggest addition...Chase Kline.03-no

All of these publications, College Football News, Athlon, Lindy's (except Phil Steele who does an exceptional job) have the easiest job with EMU predictions. They just recycle what they did last year and change the year. They are TRASH. More of, "what a difficult place to coach...." lol. We are out of the basement and are now a respected program and these guys cannot write about that.

I'm with you also....how do you not mention Chase Kline? Speights name issue and how do you not mention Tanner Knue?

I do believe we will be a 6-6 and possibly a 7-5 team next season but their total lack of any professionalism is laughable.

RE: Football previews
I agree this article is hard to take seriously when they can't even get key players' names right. And they did also miss some key players/transfers who will potentially be "under-the-radar" guys with the potential to be significant impact players. That doesn't bother me too much because if they stay under the radar, teams like Louisiana and Arizona State might be caught by surprise by guys they did not scheme for. I am an eternal optimist and go with my heart more than my head too often...I think 8-4 is reasonable for the season with a MAC title...and 9-3 a possibility with an upset or two. Anyone want to borrow my rose-colored glasses?

I would love it Cid. A MAC championship would be awesome. Hey, who would have thought NIU would do it after going winless the previous season?

I am always trying to push the envelope to get us from good to great. A MAC Championship would be great.

And I still expect us to add players prior to July 1. Nothing magical about that date.

Indeed. Phil Steele’s is the only one worth reading.

Dan, I deeply thank you for that and I ALSO thank SD for posting what he did. We have a paucity of info about EMU sports, and I will gladly accept whatever I get. I appreciate the leg work and sharing of such.

While I would hardly consider the article shared as polished or omniscient, it IS info about EMU sports. I'm not an exceptionally bright guy, but I can evaluate the information presented on my own. I just appreciate the fact that someone took the time to find and share it with us. To me that is what the board is all about.

This is why I believe CMU wins the MAC this year - they can run the ball

Dear Luckeyone,
Didn't Central lose some of their best linemen from last year? Any back worth his salt, has to have someone open holes for them. Nichols is a good back, but to claim winning the MAC on one player is a bit early, in my opinion.

I think Lew Nichols is special and will be an NFL RB. He will have a great season, but remember he just lost 2 offensive lineman, Goedeke and Raimann to the NFL draft. Those guys were maulers and will be tough to replace for Lew.

Ken,

I agree with you! I guess CMUs coach understands how to build a running game. I love CC, but we’re usually last in running the ball. There are times when it’s 4th and short and we have to high risk pass for a first down vs low rush run for a first down.

Dear Luckeyone,
I agree with you when it comes to Eastern's run game, but I would also add the play selection when it comes to the run game. Eastern runs few sweeps, almost no reverses, just dives off tackle. The opposition knows what running play is coming 80 to 90 percent of the time.

Agree with that. I was pulling my hair out last year whenever I saw Samson Evans come in. It was a GUARANTEE he was getting the ball. He is good and I like him, but his presence was a dead give-away he was getting it and it didnt show creativity.

I hope they actually use Samson in the wildcat and the passing game in general more often. He was a high school QB and since we don't really have a for sure playmaker at QB, I hope that when he is in the wildcat they make him throw a lot more. It would definitely make defenses miss a step. We already saw how when Samson passed he made defenses question what was going on. Last year in the small sample size of 4 passes he went 4 for 4. I just think that he could change the offense completely if he began passing a lot more.

RE: Football previews
I was looking at the roster tonight and wow it looks like we added a handful of guys. What I like is that most of these guys look like they have good experience and will be ready to contribute. Perhaps CC in year 9 is ready to make aggressive moves to get experience dudes. They got a lineman from Colorado, D-tackle from a good JUCO and these guys are in positions of need. Good on CC

As it relates to the thread, I was looking at our roster for our Secondary and I feel like we may be better than I thought due to talent and experience. Carter, Bogan, Vaden, Benson, Scott, Lee, Shine is a really good crew. Might be the deepest I've seen in a while. Any thoughts on this group? I think this is an important group as we rarely get to the QB forcing us to be great in the secondary.

Has anyone noticed the new offensive and defensive analysts? The OA has a seemingly good resume. Maybe a new set of eyes can freshen the O.

Losing Scott Jr hurts. He was an impact player that could make up for Haney being out. But kudos to the staff for a quick recovery and getting Brown. When you lose guys late its important to get the replacements in here for conditioning and knowing the system. If Lee can turn his life around he will be an impact OL. TE is a question mark on who starts. I agree with you about the DB and we have some new LBs so I am hopeful we have improved on defense and can stop at the point of attack rather than let the RBs drag our LBs another 5 yards. Punting is an open position as well. Julien spoiled us for his time here. Yep and no more Ryland either so that should be an interesting battle. We have WR and RB depth not so at QB. If Powell gets hurt it will be a long season. We may go down a notch this season but I really like the recruiting classes we are bringing and the fact most of our guys redshirt. Last year due to injuries we got to see some of that young DB talent emerge. Hopefully we will see that in other areas as well. In short we may go down a notch but come back the following years. It will be interesting to see how the QB recruiting for the 2023 season comes about.
