The University made the right choice
Most of yall must be politicians ---I have never seen as much crawfishin/backpedaling/flipflopping/mindchanging

For months posters have proclaimed that if we don't build an OCS then we are doomed--that the big 12 will not come calling .

For months posters proclaimed that we were a lock for the big 12---heck some even suggested the acc or big 10 may come calling.

When the news broke that we were not #2 on everyone's list----posters stated that it must be because of no OCS---even though they knew that when they thought we were #2 on everybodys list-

For months posters have proclaimed that we needed to build a tiny 30-40K seat mickey mouse stadium----thus limiting the number of fans that could watch our beloved TIGERS play----they proclaimed that MEMPHIS needed less fans at games LOL---incredible really

So now the news that there will be no OCS---and some of those same posters are saying that the new designed MEMPHIS MEMORIAL STADIUM will be so great that we will now get an invite --really are you all happyclappers----do any of you ever think the university/coaches can make a mistake----why all of a sudden the OCS don't matter ?

I have been on record long before we were not chosen last year--that the stadium had/has ZERO bearing on inclusion in the big 12----it however mattered not to me if we built one or stayed at MMS--I just wanted it big enough

The new stadium will be in excess of 50K which is what I have maintained it needed to be --I was demonized and laughed at for suggesting that it be at least 50K

I hope we get selected in the next go round ---but this stadium still will have no bearing just like an OCS wouldn't have-----I think they made the correct choice--a no brainer really ---it looks great and I cant wait to see it

RE: The University made the right choice
I'm very excited about the renovation plans! The pictures look amazing and it will be a beautiful stadium. I'm also very thankful that our University leadership understand the importance of the football program to the continued growth of the University and is willing to make such a significant investment. (This wasn't always the case.) Overall, this is wonderful news.

Well, he made a little sense. Until he said the University committing $150-$200 million to the football program has no impact on an invite.

The University made the same choice that it has made for the last 100 years - again.

We got to where we are now by hitching our wagon to the city's stadium for 100 years.

If you like where we are now, then fine. I don't.

RE: The University made the right choice
Just as Dr. Rudd said months ago. It's not a shiny new stadium that gets you an invite, it's the commitment. With the Tiger Park (south campus) investment and now the LB investment, I think we're doing all we can to prove that we belong.

if we got overlooked again, oh well. It's not like we didn't try. Veach said in the University's presser yesterday, that there has never been a conversation that we must build a new OCS, but rather we have to show that we can sustain success and prove our willingness to invest in athletics.

I really like our chances, but either way I will enjoy the hell out of the renovated LB.

RE: The University made the right choice
To say that investing $200M on the football program has "no bearing" on an invite is incorrect. One of the Big 12's concerns was how relatively new our football success is, compared with decades past when the University failed to support the football program. Honestly an investment of this magnitude in football was unimaginable a decade ago. This is a bold statement that says the University is committed to supporting the football program for many years to come.

I agree. I'm trying to get on-board, but I can't see how this was the right move for the university. For the city, YES!

I feel like a used car salesman just shuttled us away from the new cars and sold us a used rental car for nearly the same price. And we're grinning ear to ear with "look at the deal I found."

The City of Memphis couldn't coordinate a county fair. But we're hitching on.....again.

Actually this choice should piss-off the citizens of Memphis, many of whom have no interest or affiliation with our university yet are being stuck with some financial obligation to this boondoggle. And it should really sadden all of the fans & supporters of our university to think our university leadership would once again invest in a foolish city venture that will eventually become significant liability to our university stature.

This is a great demonstration of our commitment and dedication to the University and football program. Let's face it, we could build an OCS with all the latest bells and whistles and somebody will still be complaining. #GTG

Like it - Don't like it, Meh. It's what we're getting and the renderings look really nice. Regardless - it represents progress, albeit perhaps short sighted progress, commitment to the program, and a recurring maintenance problem every 20-25 years or so. More to the point - if you think we have any sort of chance of being invited to the Big12 then its a definite positive. How could it not be?

Hmmm.... what's it called when you spend money on something you don't own???? I don't think it's called investing....

I think this does show commitment and will look great, but the right choice would have been to start a building campaign for an OCS after Fuente's success. When Norvell was hired we were riding momentum that continued rising until the Cotton Bowl.. Coincidentally this is the same time frame when Colorado State built their OCS for the amount we are going to sink into renovations now. If you want to go further back we could have capitalized on the Wimprine/Deangelo years and built an OCS.If we had done that at either one of those times we would very likely be in a P5 now. The lack of vision has been truly amazing. Veatch said after the last round of expansion they realized we have to do something. No kidding Sherlock!

IDK.... Shirley Raines and RC were never gonna commit to FB. There was no hope during that era.

RE: The University made the right choice
Would I prefer an on campus stadium? Yes. Do I understand that the option was explored and the cost was found to be way more than we could reasonably raise? Yes. Do I think the proposed upgrades to The Liberty Bowl are exciting and a huge improvement overvwhat we have now? Yes. Do I think it demonstrates a commitment to our football program? Yes. Do I think better days and a better conference await us in the future? Yes.

Do I chose to get behind this project as opposed to griping and complaining about not getting my way with an OCS? Yes.

Bottom line - I do trust our major boosters and current leadership at our University to make what they deem to be the best choice to move our athletic program forward. I do not believe that we would propose this type of investment in The Liberty Bowl without knowledge that others will view this as demonstrating a major commitment to our football program.

Lastly - the renovations look great and I think the renovated stadium will be a kick ass place to go watch the Tigers!!
