They don't stand a chance opposing the people that have been running things the last 40 years.

EDIT TO ADD: They also stand little chance not be persuaded by these people that theirs is the only reasonable course of action.

Your post assumes that the new president & AD are actually calling the shots. As I've said in other posts, it's my opinion that a political "yes man" was hired as president for the Board of Trustees to run the show.

The Board of Trustees most definitely knows exactly how to deal with boosters, as well as the city.
Point taken. Maybe I should say there was zero chance the President or the AD were going to seriously question what they were told to do.

RE: The University made the right choice
I have talked to one of the Board of Trustees that I have known for 45 years, and he told me before the announcement that I would not get all I want (an OCS) but I will love the alternative (major renovation of the SBLS). From what I have seen, he is correct.

What do we get for our money besides use of the facility?

Other than our best shot so far at getting into the BigXII with substantially greater annual payouts?

You're going to be sitting in the newly renovated Liberty Bowl for our first BigXII game while the rest of us are having a great time... But you won't be having a great time. You'll have your arms crossed because the sun shade in the renderings is grey and they built it off-white.

According to him, the east side will be untouched. Same toilets, same concessions, same seats, no cosmetic changes. Prayers sent that he will be sitting on the west side.

It is funny, but it doesn't answer my question.

If the school and its donors pony up 100 to 150 million, what do we get?

Will we no longer have to pay rental charges to use the stadium?

Will we get a share of the concessions? Parking? Concession space rental?

Will we receive a share of the rental paid by other events?

Who will pay for routine maintenance, cleaning, janitorial, and other services?

Who pays the utility bill?

Will we control our locker rooms? Our suites? Do we get all or part of suite rentals?

This are questions that matter. If this was an OCS, we would get ALL OF THAT MONEY and all the requisite expenses.

The problem here is that we had only one alternative: do nothing. By all accounts we do not have the money to buy the land and build a new OCS. Then you figure in some timing whereby the University might believe that we still have a chance at landing in the Big12; but while others are announcing and building new stadiums, our leadership had to take whatever steps necessary to stay in the Big12 discussion.

So what do we get for our money you ask? Maybe the answer is a Big12 membership invitation. At that point, the return on the Liberty Bowl investment might look a lot better. Your viewpoint may be different but the actual return on the $200M revolves exactly around the Big12.

Without the kind of revenue I am talking about, we will not be able to compete in the Big XII. It won't matter.

The city keeps all ticket revenue, all parking revenue, revenue from Tiger Lane rentals, revenue from advertising, all revenue from concessions for those with seats on the west side.

The school keeps all ticket revenue for those sitting on the east side, which will be exactly the same as it is now. The only exception is those on the east side where the roof provides a bit of shade. They will have to pay an additional cost for those seats that the city gets to keep. For any seats on the east side where advertising is visible, there will be an additional cost, and the city gets to keep the extra fee.

For months posters have proclaimed that if we don't build an OCS then we are doomed--that the big 12 will not come calling .

For months posters proclaimed that we were a lock for the big 12---heck some even suggested the acc or big 10 may come calling.

When the news broke that we were not #2 on everyone's list----posters stated that it must be because of no OCS---even though they knew that when they thought we were #2 on everybodys list-

For months posters have proclaimed that we needed to build a tiny 30-40K seat mickey mouse stadium----thus limiting the number of fans that could watch our beloved TIGERS play----they proclaimed that MEMPHIS needed less fans at games LOL---incredible really

So now the news that there will be no OCS---and some of those same posters are saying that the new designed MEMPHIS MEMORIAL STADIUM will be so great that we will now get an invite --really are you all happyclappers----do any of you ever think the university/coaches can make a mistake----why all of a sudden the OCS don't matter ?

I have been on record long before we were not chosen last year--that the stadium had/has ZERO bearing on inclusion in the big 12----it however mattered not to me if we built one or stayed at MMS--I just wanted it big enough

The new stadium will be in excess of 50K which is what I have maintained it needed to be --I was demonized and laughed at for suggesting that it be at least 50K

I hope we get selected in the next go round ---but this stadium still will have no bearing just like an OCS wouldn't have-----I think they made the correct choice--a no brainer really ---it looks great and I cant wait to see it

Veatch mentioned Colorado State as the model they were looking at. It has 41,000 seats. In their opinion, that was the ideal size. When there was a poll on this board, only 6% thought it should be bigger than 50k. Nothing should deter anyone from the behaviour toward you that you describe.

Not just a bit wrong, completely wrong.

Yes you are! --just like always--not just a bit wrong -completely wrong and unwilling to admit it. The university made sure not to make it a mickey mouse tiny stadium---they want as many fans as they can get--radical thinking I know--a university wanting more fans not less----the FACT REMAINS it will seat excess of 50K --just like I was demonized for saying it needed to be --and obviously the university agreed
