What's that about?

Will say if the Noles sober up from their five-year stupor and get back to rollin' like the old days, their fans will fill up half of Grant Field no problem.

Think that's one reason why GT has the edge on Miami for an SEC expansion invite: Atlanta is much easier to get to and darn near every SEC school has a boatload of alumni within 45 minutes or so of Tech's campus.

FSU's President considers Atlanta to be already in-market for FSU and he wants to expand FSU's reach to markets they're not already in.

Like the coveted upstate NY market. COGS Let’s go!!!

If you have three permanent rivals and the other five rotate, you will be in the rotating stadiums once every four years and the same for yours. So it’s not like you’ll go very long not seeing them.

If presidents are influencing these decisions you better believe Duke-GT will be annual.

Is that the moron who helped run off Fisher and tried to turn FSU into a basketball school?

Sounds like something that clown would say

My bad, it was FSU's AD.

Quote:Alford, the FSU AD, proposed that having Tech as a permanent partner might not be optimal for his school. He said that he considered Atlanta “part of (FSU’s) market” with significant alumni support and strong TV viewership numbers for Seminoles games in that market.

“What I’d like to do personally is expand our brand to different markets, and I also think that’s for the betterment for the league,” he said.

Betterment for the league?

Maybe the Noles really do want to remain in the ACC forever

Growing the brand is always good, but I certainly don't like the sound of that "for the betterment of the league" comment. Hopefully he's just playing nice in the sandbox we're currently trapped in, I have high hopes for him down the road when he gets a chance to influence decisions about the future. Played baseball for Mississippi State, got his Masters at Arkansas and worked at Alabama and Oklahoma, among other places (but not an ACC tie to be found on his resume). I'm hoping AD Alford is a man who fully understands "It Just Means More".

RE: ACC eliminating divisions 2023
I’m getting the impression GT does not want FSU on the annual slate and that’s the FSU guy’s way of saying “we don’t care”.

GT is probably in favor of keeping divisions, besides they already see Clemson once a year.

If that’s the case, I’d look to Virginia Tech or Louisville to be FSU’s third. Syracuse doesn’t make any sense.

VT used to play FSU quite often before either one joined the ACC. I'd love to see the Hokies play the Noles every year!

FSU/GT as annual would be nice for FSU, but less so for GT.

The only time UVA-GT has had sizzle was when UVA had George Welsh and GT had George O'Leary (first as DC, then as HC). Beyond that there's no pulse to UVA-GT. I think GT would even take WF over UVA.

That can be arranged. I just swapped GT/UVA and Syracuse/WF to give GT/WF and Syracuse/UVA.

I don't know about that. The Coastal is close to ideal, admittedly. I'd swap Miami for FSU. Then with the Clemson cross-over we're set.

I posted this on the ACC board a few days ago:

Not necessary what I would do, but what I predict:

Boston College......Syracuse, Virginia, Wake Forest,
Clemson...............Florida State, Georgia Tech, NC State
Duke....................Georgia Tech, North Carolina, Wake Forest
Florida State.........Clemson, Georgia Tech, Miami
Georgia Tech.........Clemson, Duke, Florida State
Louisville..............Pitt, Syracuse, Virginia Tech
Miami..................Florida State, Pitt, Virginia Tech
NC State..............Clemson, North Carolina, Wake Forest
North Carolina......Duke, NC State, Virginia
Pitt......................Louisville, Miami, Syracuse
Syracuse..............Boston College, Louisville, Pitt
Virginia................Boston College, North Carolina, Virginia Tech
Virginia Tech.........Louisville, Miami, Virginia
Wake Forest..........Boston College, Duke, NC State

Color indicates Rivalry Week opponent. I could see a rotation of Miami with BC and Syracuse as well, schedule permitting.

You all are forgetting the part where they integrate Notre Dame into the official rotation of conference games and Notre Dame becomes eligible for the CCG, but notre dame only has to play 6 conference games while everybody else has to play 8.

Can’t wait to see the the 4 way tie for first place and the anger that will follow.
They will go back to divisions sooner or later.

Good point about Notre Dame. The ACC Commissioner threw out the 3/5-5 setup so they didn’t consider the Irish either, apparently.

Virginia isn’t going to get stuck as the only pre-1990 ACC member saddled with two former Big East schools annually. They have to play VPI and Carolina; the third permanent opponent would ideally be GT for recruiting and the long-standing rivalry, but given the FSU leadership’s comments I think it could end up being the Noles. Return the Jefferson-Eppes Trophy game to an annual affair.

I would hardly call Virginia Tech a Big East school. Virginia played them regardless of their conference affiliation.

Pitt and Miami will happen because both need a Rivalry Week opponent.
