In your opinion, what is the likelihood South Carolina would agree to this swap that "has always made sense" as you put it?
Just a guess, but I'd say 0.0%
Pete, South Carolina has tried to rejoin the ACC twice and was in serious talks with the conference for a third time in 2010-11, so I would say there could be some interest.
I have never heard a peep about this alleged interest in returning to the ACC. Do you have any sources for this?
I’ve wasted thousands of hours of my life reading about realignment and have never heard about “South Carolina being in serious talks with the ACC in 2010-11”.

When they were independent, maybe, but not now.

Myself, I'd like to hear more about South Carolina's two failed efforts to rejoin the league it left by choice in 1971

RE: ACC eliminating divisions 2023
SC was voted down in 1978 and GT was invited in their place. They expressed interest almost immediately after they left because the ACC changed the rules they were not happy with.
There was some speculation they would garner consideration in 2003 when there was resistance against BC.
I haven’t heard about 2010, but I’m not plugged in.

I remember the internet speculation in 03 but that's all it was. Sort of along the lines of a Dennis Dodd (or Pat Forde or whoever was writing about this stuff 20 years ago) article throwing it out there as making a certain amount of sense for all involved. I don't recall there ever being anything along the lines of rumors that anyone at SC was actually considering such a move and doubt there was.
You don't remember anything about 2010 because it wasn't discussed until today, on this thread.

Reminder: South Carolina joined the SEC in 1991.

Does that erase the fact they wanted to rejoin the ACC for two decades? C’mon, you should know that. Your Gobblers waited half a century to get in.

Honestly, yes, I think it does erase the past. Being in the SEC has reset the thinking at SC (and Mizzou).

No way South Carolina turns down the SEC TV money. Stupid to even speculate about it.

It would never happen now, but I’m not sure about back in 2003.

I guess Maryland needs to give back their banner. It never happened because they’re in the Big 14 now.

That is true now, but there was a time before the SECN launched in 2014 when the TV money was not so overwhelming.
I took about three years to go from the ACCN announcement till the network was up and running. I would imagine it took the SEC approximately the same time.

RE: ACC eliminating divisions 2023
Isn't a condition of SC rejoining the ACC, be that North Carolina left?
