There is no real reason to breakaway. Financially or otherwise

I’ll believe it when I see it from a real power conference like the Big Ten and SEC.

While I understand that sentiment, Phillips was a major voice in the B10 up until 2021. A breakaway would be something that would take years of planning, and I think he would know if it were in the works.

I do believe him that nobody's talking about it with the ACC. The ACC as it exists now won't be a part of the future, its valuable pieces will find better homes and its remnants will likely be combined with other left-behinds.

Disagree completely! They can get more if the NCAA isn’t I the way mucking it up.

Well that would be unfortunate.
Agree that ACC would most likely be the last to know though.

I agree with this.
IMO, the P5, on balance, benefit considerably from having the G5 around, and they are well aware of that.
If the G5 didn't exist, the P5 would have to invent them, IMO.
Once the "autonomy" thing was settled 10 years ago, it's been all good for the P5, IMO.

Wrong. The idea that getting rid of the NCAA will suddenly make things better and make everyone more money is one of the more idiotic "truths" that are actually false that some people cling to.

Yup - the P5 basically has everything they want now, and have a good foil to blame issues on (The NCAA, which they in fact have defacto control of already).
Could they squeeze a few more dollars out? Probably, but as Frank says - the juice isn't worth the squeeze.

Yeah, ol Jim talks a good game.
Just hope he's not still the commissioner if (or, more likely, when) Miami is among the left-behinds.
Once one of the "Big Five" all-sports members — UNC, Duke, UVA, Clemson and FSU — makes a move toward the door, the league's gonna fall apart faster than a Manny Diaz defense

Exactly.
The "inept and crooked NCAA" is perfect fall guy for a billion-dollar industry where the athletic leaders at the most powerful member schools are far more interested in winning, keeping their jobs and raising money than making sure their schools follow the rules.
College Revenue Sports Inc. has gotten just the kind leadership it deserves, public griping and hand-wringing notwithstanding.

So you won't shed any tears when FSU leaves the ACC?

So only the Big Ten and SEC break away? Good luck with that.

He's right... they will not break away once they are gutted by the B1G/SEC and the remaining schools are forced into the lower rung.

I think Bobby Bowden was wrong on that and I wish we had never joined. We compounded the mistake by not leaving when Maryland did and signing onto the abominable Grant of Rights, even if we would have had to go Independent for a while to escape. So no tears from me, I will view it as the greatest day in FSU football history aside from the first national title.

RE: Per ACC Commissioner: P5 Not Breaking Away
The A5 should break away so that the remaining FBS schools can on with growing their own top level FBS league and with NIL 5* and 4* players will populate this new league, yeah our tv contracts will be less at first than the other FBS league but in a few short years it will be on par…
