Sam Houston Schedules First FBS Home-and-Home Series
Perfect one for the Kats with Hawaii starting the home-and-home series in Huntsville against the Rainbow Warriors before heading to Honolulu.

Kats can play a 13-game schedule in '25 by virtue of heading to the Islands.

Many of our fans were a bit anxious that we'd be light on recognizable names for scheduling. Hawaii is not a SEC or Big 12 school, but people at least know about the institution and could see themselves making a trip out of it.

FBSchedules is reporting Sam Houston will host Eastern Kentucky in '24 in Huntsville. Sam Houston is playing there this year and may very well have gotten out of paying a true FBS guarantee to the Colonels since it was a home-and-home arrangement.

Quote:HUNTSVILLE – Sam Houston football has finalized its first non-conference games as an FBS member, announcing on Tuesday a home-and-home series with Hawaii for the 2024 and 2025 seasons.

The 2-game series will be the first meetings between the schools on the gridiron and will have the Rainbow Warriors coming to Huntsville first, on September 24, 2024.

The Kats will then return the game the following year with a September 6, 2025 game in Honolulu.

My excitement about this move and the transition just doubled.

2025 is plenty of time to save up for this one.

That's great. It'll be really cool for some of those East Texas kids to experience that trip. Be something to pitch in recruiting.

This is why I think Sam Houston needs to be more aggressive in promoting things related to the FBS move; looks to me they only announced this game because FBSchedules filed an information request with the university. Fans are going to get excited with such announcements - whether facility enhancements (across all sports but particularly football) and football scheduling agreements.

Looks like we got 3 years to save up for this one. Just have to get the wife on board or leave her at home and go with some buddys. 04-cheers

They might have been waiting to announce it with additional pending matchups that are being discussed but not finalized. Our AD seems to like to announce series in pairs.

Interesting read; don’t think it would be a terrible solution for scheduling

RE: Sam Houston Schedules First FBS Home-and-Home Series
Just on a quick glance at fbschedules your G5 options for 2023 include: Boise, SMU, Tulane, Memphis, Fresno, Nevada, UNLV, Utah St, Marshall, Kent St, JMU, USM, Louisiana, and Army.

Your P5 options include: UCF, GT, Miami, Pitt, Baylor, Kansas, OU, Northwestern, Bama, BYU, and Auburn.

Again, that was a quick glance. A lot of those openings will be filled by FCS buy games so you can probably take off 2/3s of the schools off of the "have true openings" list.

I'm excited for y'all. I think scheduling announcements are the most exciting part of the G5 off season.

Please, Jacksonville State, I beg of you. You need 3 games. Take UMass and/or UConn from Liberty in 2023. We gave you South Carolina. You don't want all tough teams for out of conference.

RE: Sam Houston Schedules First FBS Home-and-Home Series
I would still like to see Sam Houston schedule a series with JMU since it is a familiar opponent from the FCS playoffs. We need teams that will drum up excitement for the fan base. That is one of the ways we can start to get people to attend games. Sam Houston is not a small school by any means and should be able to pull some fans from the surrounding Conroe and Woodlands area as well as possibly some people from the East Texas area considering there hasn't been a true East Texas team in the FBS before. Sam Houston has a strong chance of increasing our attendance I feel like. The admin needs to do more with gameday experience and scheduling known teams is probably one way to do that.
