Strange headline:
Quote:NIL and Lamborghinis: The Wild West has college football suits tight in their khakis

The plural noun "khakis" almost universally refers to tan-colored* cotton casual slacks. A person wearing those, almost by definition, is not a "suit".

Of course suits can also be khaki in color, but a person wearing a khaki suit would almost never be described as wearing "khakis".

*The word "khaki" comes from the Hindi term for "dust-colored", which I think makes it one of the coolest, most evocative color names there is.

Khaki doesn’t hold a candle to ice blue in that regard

I'd say "Khaki" beats the tar out of "ice blue"! For one thing, "khaki" is one word. Second, it doesn't (in English) feel the need to reference another object or color for its meaning; its meaning is self-contained. And three, it evokes not just the dust that it is named for, but also the very specific context in which the cotton-twill cloth which made the name famous was developed: British cavalry on the Indian Subcontinent. Is there any other color name that evokes such a degree of historic specificity?

Redcoat?

Somehow, "The Khakis are coming!" just doesn't have the same ring.

RE: lamborghinis
From "Sarie Marais," South African (Boer) folk song that has been adopted as the theme march of pretty much every commando force in the world:

Ek was so bang dat die Kakies my sou vang,
En ver oor die see wegstuur;
Toe vlug ek na die kant van die Upingtonse sand
Daar onder langs die Grootrivier.

Afraid that the khakis (British) would capture and send
Me far across the ocean tide
So I fled to the land of the Upington sand
Down along the great (Orange) riverside.

Navy is a great one!

But I am not the least bit objective: it will surprise no one who knows me that two of my favorite colors are navy and khaki.

If you go by the clothes I wear, I guess my favorite is Black. Johnny Cash and I.

But my college team is Blue/Gray, my HS team is Blue/white, and my pro team is blue/silver. See a common trend?
