You are right though, we have a long history of being a nomadic program that changes conferences every 9-10 years.

..this is our tradition. Some claim 100 years in a single conference...and their playing style reflects it (cough cough Iowa). We claim 100 years of change.

We've been a basketball powerhouse, a football powerhouse, an afterthought in college athletics, a commuter school, a major research university, and everything in between. Just in the 30 years I've been a fan, it's been a wild ride.

True. And that 30 year look includes a Final Four and a couple of Elite Eights along with the CFP and some of the most major bowls I never could have imagined UC competing in--Cotton, Peach, Orange and Sugar.

I'm always the optimist but I believe much of the best is yet to come for our Bearcats in the Big 12.

We are still missing that major bowl win. Can’t wait until we get it.

Same. Being 0-4 on the big stage kills me, especially knowing we should have won the Peach Bowl.

Honestly the Orange Bowl too. One of Brian Kelly's worst games as a head coach, anywhere.

I'm in complete agreement on both bowls but the ending of the Peach was a kick in the gut after battling and leading most of the game.

Not making excuses, but we've drawn 'Bama and Georgia in the last two and they each won a national championship in that two year window if memory serves me.

At times last season I wondered if it would be better for UC to go win a NY6 bowl or make the CFP. The Bearcats got a lot more mileage out of the CFP bid. Beating a team such as Utah would have meant the usual litany of excuses from P5 fans about the Utes not being up for a game against a G5 opponent. Thankfully, we can take that excuse from opposing fans off the board after this season.

Just think if we beat Arkansas to start the season. We will be well into the Top Ten and the narrative will be, "Look who's back".

Would Arkansas be considered a major win, or just a win over a middle of the pack SEC team?

By many accounts, they're preseason top 20.

Bleacher Reports has UC #25 and Arkansas #17 in its preseason poll.

Sports Illustrated has UC #11 but no Arkansas, which surprised me).

Sporting News has UC #22 and Arkansas #15.

Looks like ESPN shut both teams out.

Fox Sports has UC #18 and Arkansas #6.

So it varies.

Never really paid attention to preseason polls outside of us. But that’s a helluva lot of variation particularly for Arkansas.

Just goes to show you, that outside of a handful of teams- it’s a crapshoot. Sucks that your arbitrary starting point can affect where you end up at the end of the season.

Arkansas will be a tough opponent. Sam Pittman’s club plays a physical brand of FB. The Hogs are coming off a 9-4 season and this will be the first game of the season- Razorback Stadium will be loud and at capacity (75,000). It will be hot and humid. Our young squad will likely be walking into a bee’s nest.

While I don't think a beat down in Arkansas would sink UC's ship in terms of regular season rankings (if the rest of the season progressed as expected) or conference championship goals it could shake the confidence of a young team that might suddenly come home to battle a rival tired of losing and an IU team wanting revenge for last year in Bloomington. It could be a rocky start. I wouldn't want that to be the case but I wouldn't lose faith in this team or coaching staff either given the mountain they climbed last season.

Arkansas played Bama to a 7 point game on the road... so there ya go.

RE: Future Football and Basketball scheduling
I don't expect a beat down at Arkansas. We should still have a stout defense and with all the O-Line back should be able to run the ball on Arkansas. QB play is my main concern.

Turnovers will be key in this game for who wins. I hate having a new QB starting off with this as their first game but I would be more surprised if we lost by 14+ more than if we win the game. It will be a huge game though and I think second to OSU vs ND week 1 so we need to be respectable.

I need to look into Arkansas more. I don't think I watched one of their games last year before really providing my input.

Their team captain on defense will conjur images of Micah McFadden- kid’s name is Bumper Pool (yes that is his legal name).

Speaking of great college football names...anyone catch the name of Oklahoma's latest transfer?

General Booty.

Sounds more like a porn name than a football player.

Good to see Clifford getting leveled. Single reason Penn State can’t get over the big hump is him. Can’t believe he came back for a 5th year but not mad about it from OSU fan standpoint. They need to move on from that bum IMO if they want to win the Big Ten.

I’ve seen harder hits on Clifford from Elder, Moe, and Lasalle kids. Haha jk Bumper Pool looks like a dog.

Maybe he had a sister named Major.
