UC golf finishes second in AAC Championship
The golf team came all the way from 6th place after 36 holes to finish second in the AAC.

BELLEAIR, Fla. -- Cincinnati's 5-under 275 in Sunday's final round allowed the No. 40 Bearcats to surge from sixth to a second-place finish at the AAC Championships.

UC, which was 3-over 843 for the weekend, matched the 2017 squad for its highest standing in its AAC era. It entered Sunday in sixth-place and was eight strokes back of then-second-place SMU before staging its impressive rally. This was Cincinnati's fourth tournament out of 11 this year in which it saved its best round for last.

The Bearcats will learn their NCAA Regional destination on Wednesday, May 3.

"We played extremely well today on a very demanding golf course," head coach Doug Martin said. "Unfortunately, we waited to play well until the last round. We were just not good the first two days and have nobody to blame but ourselves. We now have roughly three weeks to get prepared for regionals. We will be ready to play come mid-May."

Not a golfer, so bear with me, do we have a good golf program? Facilities? Website shows an indoor facility and a few country clubs, but as a non golfer how do we stack up to the southern schools in the conference? or MAC/Big Ten schools? I would assume southern schools to have a marked advantage in this sport similar to baseball

After starting out with a bang, dominating a pretty loaded field in Puerto Rico (3 top 25, 1 top 10 team), it's been probably a slightly disappointing season for golf.

But they are a good program right now. Top 40 team this year according to these rankings. https://rankings.golfweek.com/rankings/default.asp?T=mt
