Under the new rules can you establish, announce and publish that your particular university starting QBs seem to be receiving NILs of a certain rate - knowing, by and by, that your QB NILs are higher than the rest of the G5 QB NILs?

If our freshman all American continues to progress we will not be in competition with other G5 schools for an Io compensation, we will be in competition with top 25 programs also. They’re probably not going to publicize a number , Because it was sew discord with the other players not getting the big fat paycheck.

With instant transfer rules and with NIL payments being within ncaa rules , We had better come up with a way to pay big-time money to the big-time stars we have or we will be watching them on TV play for other teams

The way I see it - its like that old bear joke where one of the two guys out hiking says to the other I don't have to outrun you - I just have to outrun the bear". So the Bears in the NIL story are the big boys and we, as a perpetually screwed little guy - just have to outrun the rest of the perpetually screwed little guys. Or something like that.

sounds like you remembered it wrong. It's just the opposite.

All the big boys will just bid on / buy the players they want.

Is this really what we all wanted?

No but its what anyone with a 3 digit iq predicted

The other issue that many pointed out from the beginning of this...

If my kid is getting 8 mil offers, I need him to have an agent, a lawyer, a financial advisor, etc. etc.

That is where things are going to get really murky. How can my kid who is being paid 8mil dollars be denied advisors?

We likely ain't losing a player to Miss State due to NIL.
But we always were losing players to Bama if they come calling - with or without NIL.
Always has been a food chain, always will be. We're about in the middle of it.

Miss State has plenty of money to spend on a Memphis QB. Do you not think if they pursued Seth H with a blank check they couldn’t pull him away from Memphis?
As long as they are bringing in 55 million annually from the SEC & we’re bringing in 6 from the AAC, then we’re not playing the same game… especially now with the NIL & transfer portal. Why would they take a chance on an incoming HS senior when they could simply buy Brady White or Seth Henigan?

MSU's booster spending base is not another level above the Memphis base. Not at all.

SEC money? You're conflating university money - and the budget they have to spend to keep their head above water with their peers - with booster money. I see no scenario where conference money is used on player NIL.

The way this works is you sign a kid with a no-compete so he can't leave for somewhere else.

The SEC used to do that. They wouldn't allow a transfer to go to another SEC school.

Didn't they create the cal rule about adding clauses to the NLI?

That is my understanding too, school/ conferences/ etc money can not be used for NIL……that has to come from outside sources. Biggest change I somewhat expect is boosters now changing how they contribute to a school’s success. Do they stop making donations to the schools to fund projects & start funding NIL opportunities instead or is it simply business as usual just the payments are more transparent now.

Im not confusing the two… Miss State has 50 million more in conference payouts to apply to expenses we subsidize with Tiger Club money. They then apply booster money to projects like Dudy Noble, Scott Field or Humphreys Coliseum. There are light years of separation between our facilities & their’s. Hell, they just spent 68 million on a baseball stadium renovation… what was our last 68 million dollar athletic facilities upgrade? Additionally, they’ve spent roughly 150 mil on Davis Wade Stadium over the past 20 years. Our donor bases may be similar but ours is being tapped to help bridge the conference money gap. Their donors are building facilities & if need be, buying players.

They're getting new video boards and planning major stadium renovations as well. Compare the endowments. That campus is nothing like it was when I was there.

The emergence of the SEC since the mid 90’s, and Mississippi State’s affiliation, has literally transformed that campus. In the mid 80’s, there really was little separation, facility wise between State, Ole Miss & USM. Today, USM is simply not competitive. The SEC schools invested the influx of revenue into oncampus facilities, at a time when they just as easily could have continued playing marquee home games in Jackson, & it has reaped tremendous rewards.

On Campus Stadiums and big conference TV generate a lot of money.

Yep, it's all about what the donar money has to be spent on and the more conference money a school gets the more donar money is freed up to put into the NIL slush fund.

I think that within 10ish years from now there will be a true split between most of what is called the P5 in football and the G5 with the 'left behinds' officially relegated to a lower level playing for their own lower rung championship like FCS does.

If you are on the wrong side of that line then it's over for you as even a pretense of being a big boy.
