1)NIL must be independent of the school. No school, school employee or booster of school or their family can play any part in the NIL process. This includes bans on creating, soliciting, or acting as a clearing house for NILs.

2)NIL deals must be quid pro quo as athlete must provide an actual service to the provider of the NIL. Such as representing the NIL provider before the general public. ie: in commercial.

3) the player cannot appear in uniform, wear clothing with any representation of the school, or be of the school colors or make any mention of the school while representing the NIL deal.

This allows athlete to get NIL deal and have the deal 100% separate from the school, thus making it less likely to use NIL to steer athlete to specific school.

In those cases, the NIL player loses all value. The Alabama QB didn't make a 7 figure NIL deal because he was a fine upstanding gentleman. He made it because he was the Alabama QB. Disassociate the school from the player, and no one would be willing to pay.

Don't worry. UT has always spent more on athletics than anyone else. Hasn't mattered to date. They're still awful.

All the big boys will just bid on / buy the players they want.

Is this really what we all wanted?

It’s no different than what it’s been for 50 plus years. At least now it’s out in the open

No. It is REALLY different. These boosters can write this off as a business expense now.

Lol they always have

Many people would know that Alabama QB if he is good...No need for him to wear the jersey.

Heck I think the Clemson QB who did the Dr. Pepper commercials...I don't think he was wearing a Clemson jersey.

The money will be paid and there really isn't a way to quantify the value of the appearance...So it really doesn't matter...

And the excluding boosters likely wouldn't fly in court and the NCAA doesn't want to face a lawsuit. Most college players advertising value is local.

Under the new rules can you establish, announce and publish that your particular university starting QBs seem to be receiving NILs of a certain rate - knowing, by and by, that your QB NILs are higher than the rest of the G5 QB NILs?

If our freshman all American continues to progress we will not be in competition with other G5 schools for an Io compensation, we will be in competition with top 25 programs also. They’re probably not going to publicize a number , Because it was sew discord with the other players not getting the big fat paycheck.

With instant transfer rules and with NIL payments being within ncaa rules , We had better come up with a way to pay big-time money to the big-time stars we have or we will be watching them on TV play for other teams

The way I see it - its like that old bear joke where one of the two guys out hiking says to the other "I don't have to outrun you - I just have to outrun the bear". So the Bears in the NIL story are the big boys and we, as a perpetually screwed little guy - just have to outrun the rest of the perpetually screwed little guys. Or something like that.

In the past, we could focus on under the radar athletes & develop them & compete. Now, those under the radar kids are paid to leave after we develop them. We have officially become “the minor leagues”.

With salary caps and other rules, it may become more profitable to stay in school than to turn pro.

Yeah, can't exclude boosters. Court would strike that quickly.
And jersey sales is one of the basic, fundamental NIL examples. Can't exclude players from a cut of that.

We likely ain't losing a player to Miss State due to NIL.
But we always were losing players to Bama if they come calling - with or without NIL.

And for the 99th time...This is old news and has never been outright confirmed. Of course, it helps UTK on the recruiting trail, so they're happy to let it hang out there. And even if true, the kid will never get $8M. It's supposedly $2M a year, renewable each year. If he's good enough, he's gone after 3 years. If he's not good enough, the contract expires ASAP.

About an ago. This probably will eventually cause the big boys to split from the NCAA. Essentially gives power to urban schools if boosters can't pay. They probably will find away around it though

Miss State has plenty of money to spend on a Memphis QB. Do you not think if they pursued Seth H with a blank check they couldn’t pull him away from Memphis?
As long as they are bringing in 55 million annually from the SEC & we’re bringing in 6 from the AAC, then we’re not playing the same game… especially now with the NIL & transfer portal. Why would they take a chance on an incoming HS senior when they could simply buy Brady White or Seth Henigan?

I was all for paying a stipend to help out some, not making some kids rich before they ever go to work.

07-coffee3 I really don't think any University payed a player or potential player 8
million dollars to play for their school in the past. College football is just not that fun anymore. It's like junior pro football. There was money under the table but not to that extent in the past.

In other news, sales of brown paper bags are down.

Shoeboxes and bus station lockers too.
