Not permanent. Only for the next two years to allow schools decimated by the transfer portal to rebuild their total scholarships to the maximum allowed 85.

Quote:Source: NCAA D1 Council will discuss and likely vote in two weeks to waive 25 man counter limit in football. Notably this is a wavier and, in its current form, will be just for the next two years. Coaches will be able to go above the 25/32 limit as soon as the end of the month.

But, "temporary" becomes "permanent" real quick...

The thing is that we all know how easily a "temporary" change simply gets added to the rule book later.

If you wanted to start a new league/conference alignment made up of the teams at the top of the food chain, what would be better than expanded rosters to hoover up more of the recruiting cream? The Bear used to do it simply to deny players to other teams.

Isn't that still the primary purpose of the UAT bench?

True, but there is the caveat that no team may exceed the maximum allowable 85 scholarships at anytime. That part is not changing.

You can sign 100 players per class but you can only put 11 on the field at a time. In this era where kids change schools more often than their socks that scenario won't fly anymore

Yep. That’s why I don’t have a huge issue with this. Say we lose 30 players in an off-season between graduation and transfers, do we not want to be able to get back up to 85? I can see where this will really help the big boys, but I don’t see it harming us too much.

Was it Blakeney at Troy that signed 30-40 in each class - never stopped him when the ncaa actually had rules that were followed/enfocred, why would it stop them now when they don't

NCAA will allow teams to sign more than 25 players per class for the next two years as long as the school does not exceed 85 scholarship players overall
