Rice joining the AAC next season
Well just in swimming for now....other sports are still in CUSA.
https://riceowls.com/news/2022/5/4/swimm...22-23.aspx
The 6 schools moving are also going to compete in men's soccer in 2022-23 (but that doesn't apply to us obviously). Actually it's just like 4 schools (including FIU, which is weird because they're not moving to the AAC - but they are in these two sports at least).
I guess that might mean CUSA won't compete in those sports going forward?

RE: Rice joining the AAC next season
Some folks on the CUSA board were saying that FIU is the only CUSA school remaining that participates in men's soccer and women's swimming, so it makes sense for them to become an affiliate member of the AAC. NMSU and Liberty do as well, but they aren't in the CUSA until 2023-24. So perhaps they will just stay in their present conferences in those sports.
I assume swimming will be in a much tougher conference - FIU is strong in that sport, and you'd have to assume that at least one of the new AAC schools will be decent as well.

I can’t speak to the other programs in the league-but Navy has a great swim program but does not compete in the AAC outside of football.

FIU was going to be the only remaining C-USA member in men's soccer. Kentucky, Coastal Carolina, and South Carolina are following Marshall and ODU to the Sun Belt which will resume sponsoring men's soccer with those five plus West Virginia, Georgia State, and Georgia Southern who had previously been in the MAC for men's soccer and James Madison which is moving all sports to the SBC from the Colonial Athletic Association.
I didn't realize that C-USA women's swimming only had six teams. Marshall and ODU are Sun Belt bound; another three (us included) are American bound. That also just leaves FIU.

RE: Rice joining the AAC next season
FIU was the only AAC team for next year to score points at this year's NCAA's. Houston was the only AAC team to score points at the meet two years ago. Houston has won 6 straight AAC titles, but they barely edged out SMU at the 2022 conference meet. FIU has won the last several CUSA meets, but that is only because they're able to stack up diving points, and they won't be able to do that in the AAC meets.
