Why to Stanford? He didn't even go there. Seems like a waste of money but I guess he will get his name on a building. Is Al Gore one of the instructors?

In his many philanthropic gifts (including to Rice), John Doerr has consistently stipulated that he does not give money for buildings; he gives money for programs. Of course, the recipient could still name a building for him, but if they did, it would not be at Doerr's request.

At the least, Stanford should name a building entry after him. I could see students posting a sign for the John Door.

and we need it a lot more than Stanford (look at the gifts every year Stanford has to sort through, from the media moguls and social media mavens). They will use the money putting a higher grade of mustard on their faculty sandwiches; we could really put it to good use.

If he lives in SF, I hope he steps on a pile of poop on his way out the front door today.
