That is some petty ish right there.

If you don't want to be there just leave...Why try to sabotage on your way out?

Penny laid down a ton of cover for Emoni when he was "injured"...Then he does this.

I hope what followed the “…pack your stuff and leave” statement was a hearty “and take your jack-ass daddy with ya’!”

Blaming Penny, and not his own ineffective play.

I don't know if I have ever been more disappointed in such a high rated recruit. I thought this kid was going to be something special. Instead, he looked completely outclassed every time he stepped on the court. Good luck to the young man.

One thing about sports we'll always know who the problem is next season. If Bates looks like scrub in a new system then we will know everything we need to know.

Bates did not appear to have any toughness about him. He appeared smooth with the shot but wasn't big on the defensive end and couldn't handle the physical part of the game well. He was also not a very good ball handler in traffic.

None of this is surprising. He’s immature.

Normally I’d say this is true. But bates is kind of in a different situation with his age and his strength. It wouldn’t be a surprise at all to see him get his **** together and have a good season with another year to mature. I wouldn’t say it would be an indictment on Penny if he did

Breakding down his performance this year at Memphis, I would not consider him a top recruit anymore. He is too thin and immature to handle being in a big time program. Just my opinion....I was not impressed and I am sure a lot of people feel the same way.

Man, that's lowdown dirty.. Penny pretty much handed the dude the keys to the team before he even got on campus!.. but Bates just wasn't good enough. He was getting pushed around and he quit.

If Bates continues to deflect accountability, he'll never get where he wants to be.. Ironic how Michigan St actually dodged a bullet with this kid.. He is a locker room cancer.

Exactly what I was thinking. Given his age and physical immaturity he could make massive strides this offseason by just gaining some natural physical maturity which could transform is ability on the court. So, if he had a great year next year I would not necessarily see that as proof that Penny messed something up with him this year.

It was clear Emoni was simply not physically ready to compete at the college level this year.
