I feel like we already tried the market strategy and failed miserably at it.

Agree. The SBC does just fine without being in big markets.

RE: CUSA Turned Down
I feel KSU will has the additional upside of also being good at many sports. I think they’d be a good add for both reasons.

RE: CUSA Turned Down
Let me just tell you, turning down Tarleton is the best decision CUSA has made during this realignment cycle. It’s shocking to see people say they’d pass on Missouri State and Kennesaw State when literal TARLETON is the team expressing the most interest right now. If CUSA’s perception isn’t already in the gutter, it would be after they added a D2 school to the conference.

Adding Tarleton would be like adding a smaller, worse version of SHSU. And Sam was by no means a good add for CUSA. Their fanbase is small. Their athletic and football budget are puny compared to other candidates. Their basketball and baseball facilities are some the worst in the WAC. And don’t let their fake attendance numbers against Fort Lewis or whoever fool you! They have no need to expand their stadium. Adding them would kill the conference. Good for CUSA!

9 is a great number and in a perfect world, every conference should be at 9 members. But you are in a precarious position if you lose 1-2 schools.

Honestly I’m most worried about losing either UTEP or NMSU if Boise goes to the Big12.

The latest round of realignment showed that the mwc wants large Texas metro areas with great recruiting. I think they would take HBU or UIW before either NMSU or UTEP.

What Texas schools did the MWC add in the last round of realignment?

They tried to get all the Texas schools going from CUSA to AAC.

No I don’t hate SHSU. I was referring to Tarleton when I say “their”, although some of those traits also apply to Sam. Namely small fanbase.

It’s pretty much common knowledge.

There’s a YouTube video of the UNT celebration of the AAC move where their AD (or President) mentioned details about the negotiations. Things broke off once MWC found out that AAC was inviting all the TX schools.

I’ve heard similar from Rice’s AD but with less specifics. Negotiations were ongoing.

Not 100% sure about UTSA.

I also know from MWC AD comments that the wanted SMU (and Wichita/Tulsa) but really I doubt those talks got far.
